Nature has given a lot of protection to save the head from general injuries. The children especially have more 'cushioning' than adults. Hence the usual fall during play on normal grounds, inside home etc need not be worried about. If it is not a direct fall from a much height or collision to a sharp surface with great sped ,there will not be any injuries. As a normal body reaction there may be a mild local swelling sometimes. (But if it is a deliberate hit with heavy or sharp tools etc it should be checked immediately.)
For pain to subside a little ice covered in a handkerchief can be applied to the area immediately. For mild bruises there may be slight bleeding. clean with good cotton or cloth mildly. Apply any available antiseptic skin cream after cleaning the bruise to remove mud etc. If the bloodflow stops there is nothing to worry.
Calming the child, as it may be shocked , is important.
After sometime if the child is ready to play ,it is ok.
Anything serious may show by some symptoms like unconsciousness, fits, vomiting , continuous pain, change in eye balls etc. (Usually during normal playing and normal the injuries are minor and can be taken care then and there)
If the wound is big and bleeding more it has to be taken to doctor immediately, as it may need stitching of wound.
