How condition of pitch affects the cricket performance? What are the factors of pitch condition which surely affects the cricket performance? What is the effect of dry and rough pitch and what is the effects of pitch with grass on it? How spin and fast bowling are affected by these factors? Why foreign pitches are difficult for Indian cricketer?

The pitch of a cricket game is the main strip where the game is played on. The type of pitch determines the type of game it is going to be.

There are various types of pitches and each pitch differs with the location of the stadium like in which country it is and in which climate it is. Dusty and hard pitches favor the spin bowling and hence the batsmen of sub continent find it easier to bat in such conditions. This is the main reason why pitches in India are flat and help spinners and our Indian batsmen are very good players of spin. If the pitch is made such a way that it can develop cracks, then also this will support the spinners very nicely. A dry pitch usually becomes dusty as the game progresses.

When a pitch has grass on it, the ball is bound to swing and hence the fast bowlers will find a good amount of help from such tracks. The grass will attract moisture which is needed for swing bowling. Thus green pitches always favor swing bowling/fast bowling as the ball will deviate off the pitch and in the air as well due to the cool climate where such pitches are found.
The foreign pitches are difficult for not only Indians but any others because they haven't played very often on such surfaces. They don't play on fast and seaming tracks in India as there are literally no seaming tracks in India.

Also it's a two way thing. The Australians and the British have been always vulnerable to spin as they don't have many spinning tracks in their countries. This fact has been testified recently as well when England toured India after that drastic tour of England by India. Also we defeated the west Indies at home very comfortably on turning tracks but are seen to be vulnerable against swing bowling in the Australian stadiums which have green and bouncy tracks for playing.

Can you explain why PERTH's pitch is so call deadliest pitch in the world? What is there in that pitch so batsmen are afraid of that pitch condition? Why pitches in the foreign countries are normally hard not soft?

The pitch at Perth is considered to be one of the fastest tracks on which the game is played on. It has a terrorizing past for batsmen as many bowlers have pulverized the batsmen many number of times at this ground. This ground has a dangerous past the batsmen have always struggled to cope with it's bounce and pace. The ball does a bit too much in this ground and hence any batsmen will be in trouble if he doesn't concentrate well enough. Also, this ground was the one which helped Ishant Sharma, the Indian quickie, to announce himself in the global arena. This is the same ground/pitch where he made Ricky Ponting his "Bunny" and got him out repeatedly and harassed other batsmen as well. Thus Perth is called the deadliest pitch due to its fast pace and great bounce which puts the batsmen in trouble.

HI,
The pitch plays an important role in cricket. You have observed that every captain take decision of bowling first or batting first according to pitch report.
If a pitch has grass on it, it would certainly help bowlers. Because it would help in swinging the bowl. So fast bowler always like these types of pitches.
If a pitch is plane there is no cracks on it then it would be a normal pitch and batsmen will get the benefit of it. There are a lot of runs on this type of pitch.
If pitch is dry and cracks on it, Spinners will get benefit of it.

The cricket pitch is the 22-yard strip on which the game is played. It an extremely important part of the game.

Each country has its own type of pitches. In India, the pitches are considered to be slow and good for batting.

The manner in which a pitch behaves depends on the way it is prepared. The person who prepares the pitch is called the 'curator'.

If the picth has grass on it, it is considered to be a fast pitch. It is beneficial to bowlers because the ball bounces and swings a lot and also the ball reaches the batsmen quickly. Such pitches can be found in Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand. Some of the grounds with the fearsome fast picthes are the WACA Perth, The MCG, Durban, Johannesberg, Trent Bridge, etc.

If there is no grass on the pitch but there are cracks on it, then such kind of a pitch is good for spin bowling. Such pitches can be found mostly in the sub-continent.

Generally,in a test match in the sub-continent, after the 3rd day, the cracks on a pitch generally widen due to wear and tear which is an absolute nightmare for batsmen as it is very difficult to play spin on such a track. That's the reason why many foreign teams tend to loose when the tour India, Sri Lanka, etc. For this reason the sub-continent teams have always produced quality spinners.

If a pitch has no grass, no cracks then such is a pitch is treat for the batsmen and nightmare for the bowlers. Such a pitch is called a flat pitch. Such pithces produce high-scoring matches

In India and other sub-continent countries, these days the pitch are made generally flat for limited overs cricket. The best example is the Cricket World Cup 2011. Almost all the matches were high scoring and scores of 300 were just par. Also scores in the IPL are generally much higher than in other T20 tournaments around the world.

This is perhaps the reason why our team's batting is failing when they play overseas. After playing on flat batting tracks in India they are not able to adjust to the fast & hostile pitches overseas.

Another thing to note is that if the weather is overcast or if it rained the night before a match, then the pitch will suit the bowlers because the moisture on the pitch helps the ball to swing. And later during the match when the sun comes out, the moisture evaporates and it becomes good for batting.

There is something called 'home advantage' in cricket. This is nothing but the pitch advantage. Each country prepares the pitch the way it wants so as to suit the home team. For example, in the current India-Australia series, Australia will prepare fast, bouncy pitches because it suits their fast bowlers and also India struggle on such pitches. Similarly if Australia tours India, then we will prepare a complete spinning pitch to help our spinners.

Thus, the pitch can be considered as the soul of cricket.

The condition of the pitch is very important while playing cricket. There are several pitches which support bowling and bating. The condition of the pitch plays a major role in the determination of the game. After winning the toss the team captain chooses bating or bowling on the bases of the pitch. Before choosing, the captains of both teams will check the pitch thoroughly. Sometimes it is very difficult o play on some cricket pitches. This signifies the bad condition of that cricket pitch. Thus the condition of the pitches is very important in playing cricket.

We all see that, the curator checks the the ground before starting the match. He have detect the character of that pitch before starting the game. This will help the team captain to choose toss. In all over the world lot of pitches have different character. A pitch can control the vectory of a team. Mainly the locals can divide the pitches into two. They are bowling pitch and batting pitch.
The nature of a pitch is depends on lot of things. Dryness, water content in soil, vapour content in atmosphere, weather, sun light, length of grass and etc. will affect on the nature of the pitch.
If a pitch is rich in water content it will helps for bowlers. Due to the water in grass ball cannot moves easily. Then batsman will have to struggle for to take each run. In otherwise the ground is very dry, which will helps to batsmans. In dry pitch ball can move easily. So batsman can make a good score.
We already mentioned that the other factor affecting on the nature of pitch is that the length of grass in the ground. Just like water content in the ground the grass cause the ball did not move easily.
Like this all factors affecting on the nature of pitch are may helps for bowler or batsman. From this we can understand that the pitch can influence on the direction of the game.

The condition of cricket pitch is very much important in the cricket. Because cricket is played in the pitch. A pitch is the place that almost middle of the ground and between the two wickets. The condition of the pitch is determined by the state of the pitch on the particular time. The curator is responsible for making the character for the pitch, like bowling pitch, batting pitch, and bouncy pitch, useful for spin pitch. The nature of the pitch depends on dry, water content soil, atmosphere condition, weather, sunlight, and the amount of grass etc.
Pitches of Australia is taken as more appropriate for fast bowlers with good bounce generated on the surface. A pitch with more grass is considered as fast pitch. Most of the teams make the pitch that appropriate to their power of performance. In India we are made pitches that is more useful for the batsman and spin bowlers, And also Indian pitches are slow compared to other. Because of this Indian players face much difficult to face the pitches with more speed.

Factors of pitch condition which affect the performane are as follows:
1. Whether the pitch is well prepared or under-prepared, is a matter of concern. For instance Indian team once had to face under-prepared pitches on a tour to New Zea Land. In India too, an ODI was cancelled after it started and continued for some overs.
2. Whether the pitch has a hard top surface or a green grassy top, is also of importance. In the former condition, the bounce of the ball can be guessed correctly and the batsmen can score good runs.
If the pitch has a grassy top,the ball tends to skid on occasions and so its bounce is unpredictable. It is a good top for fast bowling.
3. Whether the pitch starts cracking after some span of play is very important for a spin attack. The ball starts turning on such tracks and spinners like Chandrashekhar, Shane Warne, Abdul Qadir, Bedi, Prasanna, Venkat Raghavan and Muthaiaa Muralitharan have shown their skills on such spinning tracks.
Foreign pitches become difficult for Indian batsmen simply because Indian players are not used to playing on such wickets. In domestic cricket we do not prepare such wickets and our performance in the tour down under clearly shows that. I read long back that Sunil Gavaskar practised fast bowling from local boys by allowing them to bowl from nearer than what is the standard length of the pitch. And his performance in the foreign tours speaks volumes about this.
Thanks and regards

The cricketing pitch plays an important role in the quality of the match being played. The pitch will induce serious effects to the batsman as well as the bowler. If the pitch is dry it supports more bouncers and whether the ground is large or small, there will be sufficient runs scored by the batting team to defend. It induces the various characters to the batsmen or the bowler. The player get boosted when the pitch supports their style and make it their day. The match is greatly influenced by the factor such as dusty, flat, wet, dry and other characteristics of the pitch. The bouncy tracks will be suitable only for certain players, and also the spinning track will suitable for the player who have good skill in playing the spin.

Every team and every player are strong on their own style and will be influenced by the nature of the pitch. The compatibility is the factor the pitch can influence on the players and that will be the reason for the level of toughness (fightback)in the play, and the strength to overcome defeats. The talents must be developed by the team to face and win over all the obstacles, and to win any kind of situation that exist in the game. If this is developed, then there wont be any defeats in this game. Only talent will be the key factor to win over the difficulties created by the pitch. Apart from this, the pitch also induces mindset to the players about the characteristics of pitch and some time may change the style of game being played. This will mostly fetch good results in this wonderful game and be a key for success. So I would like to say pitch is one of the most important factor in cricket and carries important weight-age similar to talent, practice, and other factors of the game.

Well as we all know cricket is the was between bat and ball. Bat is the the weapon of the batting team and ball is the weapon of the bowling team . As in all games in cricket too the condition of the ground effects the match played. The centre most portion in a cricket ground is called the pitch. For a good cricket match pitch and ground plays a major role. The pitch can decide the fate and outcome of a cricket match. Thats why the toss is very important in a cricket match . Mostly the pitch gets affected by moisture, water content, cracks, and grass. Another major problem a pitch gets effected that, the weathering of the pitch . That is the upper layer of the pitch gets broken away easily and this could lead to uneven bounce and pace when a bowler bowls. This makes the game dangerous the ball will bounce out of control once it leaves the hand of a bowler . This could even cause injury to the batsman. Another problem is the wetness in the pitch and ground , due to this the outfield becomes more sticky and its difficult for the batsman to clear the ball out of the field . And also due to the wetmess the bowler cannot handle the ball properly . The ball easily slips away from hand of the bowler. There are many other problems also. In short the pitch decides the winner in a cricket match .

Pitch is always the main factor by which batsman has to always tackle, not always batsman bowlers also have to suffer when they got pitches which are oppose to their strength.
let us take an example Shaun Tait is the fast bowler, he needs support of fast bouncy pitches, but when he visit subcontinent regions such as India, Pakistan or Srilanka he always performer very bad, because in subcontinent pitches were slow and batsman get enough time to play. So always pitches plays a major role for any cricketer to perform. This is the main reason why our Indian bowler cant;t do enough well in Australia and England.

Cricket is really the remarkable game it is totally different from all other games as its concepts are also different for instance other games like hockey football are just 90 minute games whereas cricket is only the game played for 4 days .this makes cricket different from others. The main thing which always plays a very important role in cricket is the pitch.Everyone is familiar with this word now a days.pitch may be damp, wet, dry,or soft.pitches prevails cracks also such conditions sometimes help the bowler and it sometimes help the batsman for example if the pitch is slow than it is good for bating but if the pitch is fast it is good for the bowling. The main key bowlers of the world like Bret lee and Dale Steyn has two main strength in there bowling that is the speed and the swing .Swing can only occur if the pitch supports it hence pitches have always played important role in the game of cricket

Hi,

First of all in Cricket, pitch plays a vital role in determining the result of a match and whether batting first or bowling first can impact the final result.

Ok now, we get to see different type of pitches depending on the locality and climate .For example in England predominantly
The pitch would favor fast bowlers as you could expect the ball to swing in overcast conditions and green grass that would help the ball to deviate resulting in movement. Next comes the pitch that is dry or dusty and you would expect it to look darker since the clay content is very high which is seen in the sub-continent (this does not mean that other countries does not sport this type of a pitch, this is just an example). So the pitch that is bone dry and with sun blazing down, you would expect the pitch to favor batting initially and then it is spinners who will come in to play (I'm talking about test cricket). When you look at pitches in Australia, you would expect it to look paler and harder the reason being is lower clay content, so the pitch doesn't crack soon and favors bounce. So Australia is a place where fast bowlers can take wickets, as well as the batsman can score runs depending on the skill and experience of a player. So a pitch would look different and behave differently depending on the locality of the place, being it a coastal place or in the middle of a desert or places located in higher altitude.

Coming to the next question, since Indians are used to playing in dry, hot, muggy conditions, it takes a while for us to acclimatize to the foreign condition where we have always struggled to win matches initially(I'm talking about South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, England). So that is why Indians have poor record overseas.

One more thing I would like to say is that Cricket is one of the few sport where pitch, ground, climate can considerably affect the game.

Thanks
