There is lots of history behind the chess game.

Actually to say the chess was born and brought up by Egyptian. The chess board with alternate shades is designed by Europe people. Even India played a major role for chess invention. Initially India used to play 'CHATHURANGA' which means 4 people can play at a time in a chess board. They just used 8 coins (King, Queen, Elephant, horse,4 pawns).
So each player used to have 8 coins with a dice. From there it got transformed into many layers and at last Europe had given the final touch to chess board with the rules and regulations. After that from Europe it came to Asia.

Many countries have chess as national game and one among the country is Japan and Korea

Chess is a game of the brain.
It is the national game of Russia and Azerbaijan.
Chess is played by almost 150 countries of the world. China, Iran, Spain, Britain, European countries, Italy, Germany, India etc are few of the countries among them.
Rules of playing Chess
Here is brief discussion on how to play Chess.
Chess is played between two parties. There are 64 squares of black and white colors. The parties sit on opposite sides of the chess board and shares equally 16 pieces. They are 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights and 8 pawns on each side. The goal of the game is to kill the king.
The pieces are arranged in such a way that pawns are placed in the 2nd row of each side. The rooks are placed at the corner followed by the knights. The bishops are placed after that and the king and the queen are placed at the middle of each side on the first row.
The player which has white pieces gets the chance to move the piece first. After that black moves the piece and then moves alternately.
Each piece has its own rule of movements which are as follows:
(i) The king can be moved up or down or sideways diagonally to one square ahead.
(ii) The queen can move in any straight direction which may be forward, backward, sideways or diagonally until she does not move through other piece of queen.
(iii) The rook is free to move forward or backward or sideways. They can work together.
(iv) The bishop is capable of going diagonally as it wants.
(v) The knights can move two squares in one direction followed by a move of 90 degree like the letter "L".
(vi) The pawn can go forward but captures opponent only diagonally. If there appears another pawn in front of him his movement is stopped.
(vii) There is a rule called casting which allows the played to do two things in one move but it has certain conditions. In casting, at first the king is made safe and then rook is taken out of the corner. The conditions are as follows:
It should be the first move of king and rook and the king should not pass through check. And there should not any piece between the king and rook.
(viii) The players can not touch any piece without any reason. If he touches ay piece he must move it. If he had to adjust any piece, he has to announce it first be saying "adjust".

The chess is first introduces in India as chaturanga. It was spread to the muslim world then step by step to all parts of the world. The moves in the chess as follows The king can move exactly one square horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Only once per player, per game, is a king allowed to make a special move known as castling,
The rook moves any number of vacant squares vertically or horizontally. It also is moved while castling,
The bishop moves any number of vacant squares in any diagonal direction.
The queen can move any number of vacant squares diagonally, horizontally, or vertically.
The knight moves to the nearest square not on the same rank, file, or diagonal. In other words, the knight moves two squares horizontally then one square vertically, or one square horizontally then two squares vertically. Its move is not blocked by other pieces: it jumps to the new location.
Pawns have the most complex rules of movement:
A pawn can move forward one square, if that square is unoccupied. If it has not yet moved, each pawn has the option of moving two squares forward provided both squares in front of the pawn are unoccupied. A pawn cannot move backwards.
Pawns are the only pieces that capture differently from how they move. They can capture an enemy piece on either of the two spaces adjacent to the space in front of them but cannot move to these spaces if they are vacant.
The pawn is also involved in the two special moves en passant and promotion. The result is win commonly called as mate that the opponent king is defeated and the stale mate means that the opponent king is not able to move further after check. The stalemate is equivalent to draw.

No individual person invented chess. Chess originated in India and kept on developing to the rules we use now.
The original concept of chess developed in India and was called chaturanga and was based on a much older Chinese game. "The name chaturanga is a Sanskrit word that refers to the four divisions of the Indian army, including elephants, chariots, cavalry, and infantry. " Chess originated in India.
