Shivraj, please do not yourself take any conclusive decision as to whether you are having eye problem or you have to wear specs. You have to consult a qualified eye specialist doctor.

However as you asked this question we have some suggestions.

When you work with computer laptop or view TV for long hours, the eyes get irritation. This is because, the smoothness in the eyes is due to the automatic secretion of tears in the frequent involuntary opening and closing of eyes. When working witn laptops and computers, we are not blinking the eyes as needed. We almost stare for a long time. Hence the lubrication in the eyes is not proper. The less tear secretion also enhances chances of bacteria and other matters irritating the eye.

In this situation, what you have to do is, take breaks often from laptop and computer and blink your eyes more. Wahs your eyes with clean cold water. In between, look at some distant objects and transfer sight from one object to other. Try to keep eyes at an optimum distance from laptop or computer.

Headaches occur due to the constant stare and the eye muscles adjusting fast. It also occurs due to the neck starin by holding head at a particular height. Hence during breaks, try smooth movement of neck also.

If after a few days you do not get any improvement, consult a qualified eye doctor for thorough tests and treatment including specs. You need not dislike specs. There are alternatives for good look and comfort.

  • Have proper lighting in your room where you work with your laptop.
  • Adjust your laptop's(monitor) brightness and contrast
  • Do exercise by focusing on close object when not working on laptop.
  • Include more and more green vegetable and fruits in your diet.

hi shivraj

Staring at your computer screen, smartphone, video game or other digital devices for long periods won't cause permanent eye damage, but your eyes may feel pain, dry and tired.

Normally, humans blink about 18 times a minute, but studies show we blink half that often while using computers.

Try these tips may be they can help:

1.Sit about 25 inches from the computer screen and position the screen so your eye gaze is slightly downward.
2.Reduce glare from the screen by lighting the area properly; use a screen filter if needed.
3.Post a note that says "Blink!" on the computer as a reminder.
4.Use artificial tears to refresh your eyes when they feel dry.
5.Take regular breaks from computer work, and try to get enough sleep at night.

Vitamin A in mangoes, oranges and tomatoes aids night vision. Beta-carotene rich foods are good for your eyes. Some of the fruits are listed below:
1. Carrot
2. Eggs
3. Milk
4. Apricots
5. Berries
6. Black Currants
7. Cold-water Fish
8. Collard Greens
9. Grapefruits
10. Grapes
11. Lemons
12. Plums
13. Spinach
14. Fish Oils
15. Raw Garlic (fresh)

If the problem persist please consult a doctor.
I hope these tips will help you.

8 Hours is too long a time for some one to sit in front of the computer.
What actually happens when you stare onto a computer/TV screen?
The light from the visual medium is reflected via cornea (layer that covers your eye). Being crystalline in nature, it has the ability to bend light, which hits your retina, that reads the information. This part of the eye basically catches all kind of visual information, transfers it to the brain via the optic nerve, giving you the visual.
Now when you continuously stare, the muscles that helps these 'focusing lens' remains contracted almost all the time due to stress. Once you stress something that actually cant take stress, it resists, and that's how you develop an eye pain.
A proper diet would help you to nourish your eyes- for sure; But i don't think it would be that helpful when something is causing continuous damages. As far as I understand, slices of cucumber is always a GOOD temporary solution for 'strained' eyes. Its a good hydrating agent, this will help your eyes rest for a while, and speed up the blood circulation underneath your eye. But i know its not possible when you are in a working environment. But sure worth it!
Another way could be - reducing the intensity of light from the computer screens. Get a good screen filter. Trust me, it helps!
And lastly, like most of my fellow mates have said - take regular breaks. Give your eye some resting time. Wash your face very now and then.
All the best.
Cheers :)

Dear Shivraj,

When we concentrate our eyes maximum time on laptop and TV visuals its common to observe pain and headache. To overcome this take 2 minute break after every 30 minute and move your eyes on other moving, stable objects. You can wash eyes with normal water or use eye drops to liquefy them. After every two hours do eye exercise by moving eyes up and down, left to right, rotating motion. Try to take mall rest for eye, close eyelids smoothly for 5 minute with smooth breath. This tricks may give more energy and stamina to work. If problem is not solved after doing this for 3 to six month then contact with eye specialist and get particular treatment.

Hi Shivraj,

The problem you mentioned here is not your problem alone. Nowadays as the use of electronic equipment are increasing with the increase in technology this kind of eyesight problems are very common. Especially people are using laptops and mobile without a time limit. It is not advisable to say to decrease the use as most rely on these equipment for their jobs and other necessities. So I suggest you to take some precautions in order to get some consolation for your problem.

1.Eat lot of vegetables rich in vitamin A, Taking in vegetables will be more preferable than taking in several vitamin capsules and tonics. Take in leafy vegetables, carrot etc. regularly. Have always a balanced diet. Do not skip your diet due to your busy schedule. Also keep an eye that you are having your food at proper time.

2. Do not stare at your lap continuously for very long hours. Take rest in between. Practice closing your eyes for a few minute and taking rest. Also try to look at long distance in between.

3.Eye yoga can also be practiced. Special exercises are available for eyes. These can improve your eye health.

4. Clean your eyes. Rinse your eyes in between.

Regards,
Suparna.

Hi Shivraj, even I had this problem which will start with eyes and will increase the pain to the temple areas also,
This problem is mainly due to the powerful light from the system or tv which makes the eyes to strain. But it can be cures easily.
1. You can use refractive glass which is a powerless one while watching TV or using laptop. If you are using this make sure that you visit the eye doctor and confirmed with him that there is no power for your eyes.
2. Reduce the brightness of the tv and the laptop. It should not be too dark or it should not be too bright, It should be in between so that it will not harm the eyes.
3. Laptop refractive glasses are available in market. It will not be exactly like glasses, But it will look like a cooling sheet which can be used in the laptop.
4. And also we should take proper diet like carrot all the days and also with some fruits rich in vitamin c like lemon, orange, pomegranate etc.
5. Constant stare on the computer screen or the tv monitor should be ignored. And take a break for every 30-45 mins and wash your eyes with cold water.
