Demoting myself to be in my dream company

Date: 27 Jun 2012   Group: Career Guidance    Category: Other Jobs    Posted By: [Anonymous]

It had been a dream to work in a certain company. Now that I have a chance to work in that company, they dont have a job that matches my current designation. I am at a senior designation now, but to join that dream company, I may have to demote myself. Do you think I should proceed or I should stick to my designation.
PS. I know the company is respected by all and Id love to work there.

If you have a financial problem and if you are the head of the family, then demotion is worth if your dream company pays more then your current company. Otherwise you should not accept demotion ans stick to your current designation.

Hello friend looking at your question I think this is one of the common query a lot many have in this world due to the expectation with specific needs. It us recommended to have dreams with some sort of adjustment as and when required.I think the kind if opportunity you have along with the kind of limitation you are going to challenge, I suspect you must pay more concentration towards the entry in the dreamt comoany rather than thinking only for the designation to approach. I think this since with the entry you can get the opportunity for the dreamt designation afterwards, but for this you need to enter inside the organization.
I hope this will really help you out.

Why not!? If you have the will power in you to reach the position in the new company within a short span of time, then do go ahead! Money and designation sure matters a lot, but there is nothing that would make you more happier than doing something that you like to do, at the right place, at the right time!
GO ahead my friend

Before I give out my suggestion firstly I want you to honestly answer yourself how sure are you that you will definitely get a very good position in your dream company? It may happen that you may not get a very good salary in your dream company in comparison to the current company's salary. I would suggest that you should stick with your current job and do some more investigation over your dream company whether you will be honestly happy there (not because it is your dream company), will it financially support you in future, will you get a promotion in a short period of time, and all that. Just give one more thought about it because all your career will depend upon it and do remember that you will be spending half of your life working in there even if it turns out to be different from what you thought it would be. Don't just give up sometime that you already have it on your hand for something you don't have.

Hi,
Please more focus on your career.I think you can join in your dream company even if your not getting a designation according to your experience and knowledge. But make sure that you have a proper growth chance there according to your performance.I mean that even if you join with lower designation, company should be able to promote you in higher designation according to you performance. If you doent have any growth opportunities there, then its better to reject this offer.
Regards,
Bipin Peter

Designation is just a name and so is you.
What i mean is that, it is you, your skills and capability that earn you a position and designation and not the company which give you one. People come and go but the company remains.

Only those people make a difference who believe in themselves, rather than those who prefer to work for a company just to get a salary and a secure future and a tag of a company to boast about.
You should consider few things before going for the opportunity:
1. Will you be happy leaving the designation and work that you get to do now in your present company and the respect that you get?
2.Will you be ready to follow the command of your seniors in new company who are at equal designation as you are in your present company?
3. Will you be ready to do the work which you make your juniors do under your supervision?
4. Are you willing to wait for 2 or 3 years to get the position you are in the present company?

It is human nature to expect equal or more than the present as we all like to progress rather than regress. For example, if you start using a bike it will become difficult for you to use bicycle again and when you start using a car it becomes difficult for you to ride a bike again, until and unless some real tragedy happens.

It is up to you to decide what you want from yourself rather than what you want from a company.
I have known people who have left their very well secure job to start their own work and become successful rather than spending their whole life working for a company which will not even remember them once they leave the same.
Always remember that it was and will always be you who will earn a position and name for yourself and never a company or people who will give it to you. Love your work not your company, as your work will attract companies to you rather than you getting attracted to a company.
Getting demoted in designation will never matter until you do not get demoted in your eyes.
