If you come to know that your computer is affected by the deadly viruses, then I would recommend taking a backup of all your data stored in the computer. This is for your own benefit only, as there are some viruses or malwares which can damage and destroy your files and you really do not want that. Do not insert any type of external storage device like pen-drives and hard disks when you think that your computer is affected as that might also get affected. After making a backup, download and run Malwarebyte's Anti-malware software. After the scanning is over, it will show a list of all the viruses it detected and ask you either to ignore or remove them. Another software which you should always keep in your computer is the Super Anti-spyware Free Edition and has a number of features for scanning your computer, even the computer's registry and memory. The best thing about these two applications is that, it is absolutely for free. If you encounter that these softwares fail to open or respond, then that means, the virus has the power to prevent it from working. In that case, connect to the network and search for an online virus scanner in Google. Preferably opt for the online scanner of Bitdefender's, as it is very powerful and easy to use. Another alternative is the ESET Online Scanner. You might be requested to reboot your computer quite a few times and that is only for the complete removal of the viruses and malwares.
To keep yourself safe from these dangerous things, try to follow the points listed below: Do not click on links sent to your inbox even from a known person as it might be an auto-generated message as his/her computer is affected. Try to read the URL carefully and then think of opening it. There can be advertisements on specific sites and if one advertisement lures to click it, then stop right there. Copy the words and Google it out. Though most of the advertisements given are free from viruses, but nobody knows what is in store for you. While downloading a song, movie or software, you can end up in a page with many "Download" buttons. Here you have to be very smart. Do not click on those flashy, big designed buttons as they are not genuine. Clicking those will lead you to an unknown website. Before connecting any sort of external storage device to your computer, scan it with an anti-virus software like eScan, Bitdefender, AVAST, Kaspersky, Norton, etc. If you are a Facebook user, then please do not click on suspicious pictures, links or posts, even if it is from your relative or dear friends. Always update your computer and also the anti-virus softwares. Each and everyday, a new and more powerful kind of virus is born and so keeping up to date is very much important. Try to follow these and you will be from viruses, malwares, trojans and rootkits.

Partik has covered almost everything you need to know about how a Virus or a malware propagates and how to remove the infections. I personally feel that Malwarebytes and Super Anti-spyware are the best free applications you can use to remove the infections. If you feel that your computer has been infected, just download both these softwares and update them. You'll have to disable System Restore function before you run the scan. After that it will be better if you reboot in safe mode and then perform a scan. There is no need to back up data or to enable system restore as it would back up the infection too. You can enable System restore after you remove the infections. Some viruses may not be removed completely as they could be rootkits. For removing rootkits, you can use Combofix Utility. Use a good antivirus that can give your computer an overall protection. If you want to consider free versions then I strongly recommend you Avast Free. As a matter of fact, no antivirus will give you 100% protection, be it paid or free version. Just keep your OS and antivirus updated with the latest updates and definitions and it will make your system less vulnerable to malware attacks.

Well other member have explained very well. But for protecting your computer from virus you must have few knowledge of virus and malwares. It depends on their programming. so its better to use some good antivirus like Kaspersky, Nortan, Avast, etc.

Most of the viruses or malwaers are not permanently remove or delete from the computer using the trial version of antivirus software. Trial version of antivirus software can only stop the viruses from damaging the files. If you use the trial version of antivirus software you should keep the antivirus updated with the latest updates.

If you think that your computer is infected with malware then the first thing you should do is to download a 'virus removal tool' from another pc with internet access. Downloading it from your own infected pc will make your computer vulnerable to further malware attcks so use another pc. Several antivirus companies like Kaspersky, Norton, F-Secure offer free virus removal tools. Virus removal tool contains latest databases, updates and antivirus engine but they differ from antivirus in the sense that they can't be updated. hence, they are for one time use only.
First scan your pc in safe mode and then in normal mode with the virus removal tool. I won't recommend downloading and installing antivirus becuase you will have to first update antivirus engine and databases as they will be out of date. Also it may happen that the malware won't allow the antivirus to install or update itself.
If the above doesn't work then format the C drive and reinstall the operating system. If this also doesn't work then the last and surest way to remove the malware is to format the entire hard drive, and then partition the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. This is the last and the most trusted method to remove the malware. Don't forget to back up your data before formatting.
Some do's and don'ts to protect your pc. Install good antivirus software like Kaspersky, Avast, Bit Defender, Norton etc. I recommend Kaspersky. Keep your antivirus updated. Don't download and install illegal and cracked software unless you are 100% sure. Don't visit adult websites or websites that offer illegal and cracked software.

If your PC is affected with virus. First of all you should have an antivirus of type Avast. Then, scan the full system using that software. If any virus is present it will move to quarantine which means the virus will no longer work but present in the system or we can delete it or another way we can heal it using internet. After the processing is complete you need to install the latest virus definitions to your computer.

First of all I would like to say that you should backup your data time to time because some virus even has the capability to delete files. So, after you get affected it is not the best option to backup your data because your data may also be corrupted or virus infected. In case you didn't backup your data and you have detected that your computer is affected with virus, the first thing to do is backup your important files. If you are not able to boot your computer through your operating system then choose to boot your PC with a linux distribution and backup your data. Then install an antivirus and scan your PC. It will be better if you boot scan your PC. Some antivirus programs allow that option. It will be even better if you format your system drive (usually it is C:) and then install an antivirus program just after installing your operating system. And after that install all the other software. Some of the antivirus software that are popular are Avast, AVG, Norton, McAfee, Panda, etc. I think that a paid antivirus always does a better work than a free one. So, if possible buy an antivirus.

If you have anti-virus then you can run it automatically to detect and delete the virus affected files. Some free anti-virus gives extra pain for our system, make sure you have original and paid anti-virus for your system requirement.
If you don't have any paid anti-virus software, then you can directly re-install operating system which will take you maximum 45 to 90 minutes. Make sure you saved all unaffected files and folders to D drive or other drives.

Hi satish, I personally recommend you to download and install avira 2012 antivirus or its latest version. The reason is simple as it is an oldest antivirus, the free version itself is more effecient in detecting and deleting many kinds of virus. I am using avira and till date i didn't found any kind of virus problems in my laptop.

I recommend you to take backup of your all the data on some external hared disk... then run an antivirus and allow this to clean all the viruses. After cleaning, check that if all the needed files are safe and if not then you can get it back from backup copy.
