SEO stands for Search engine optimization. The SEO techniques are classified into two - White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO.
White Hat SEO :
White hat SEO also called as Ethical SEO follows all the rules and regulations of search engines. Using "keyword" is one of the White Hat SEO technique. This is used by people or sites who wish too have a long term investment or revenue from search engines.
Black Hat SEO :
The techniques used under Black Hat SEO is not as per the rules and regulations of search engines. So search engines might ban the sites that is using black hat SEO techniques, if they find it. Black Hat SEO is the using of unethical techniques.
Always use only White Hat SEO techniques.

White hat SEO adopts acceptable techniques to improve traffic to a website such as:
• Designing sites for engaging humans and not for search engines
• Including keywords in title tags and alt for images to guide search engines in indexing the web pages.
• Creating high quality content to naturally attract traffic to the website
• Tailoring content to genuinely engage and inform the user
• Including links among different pages on the website to reflect conceptual integrity
• Getting links to the website from well-known and well-reputed sites (backlinks) that make for continuity and boost traffic to the website.
• Adopting techniques that conform to Webmaster guidelines (by Google) to augment traffic to the web site

Actually there are three types of SEO techniques which are White Hat SEO also called as Ethical SEO, Black Hat SEO & Gray Hat SEO same three type of "Hat" terminology mostly used for hackers. This grouping is done according techniques used for SEO. Means if White Hat SEO is considered ethical then Black Hat SEO is un-ethical & Gray Hat lies in between white & black because Gray Hat SEO knows both types of ways ethical & un-ethical.
White Hat SEO:
It follows the rules & regulation of search engines to get better traffic which are useful for both search engines & visitors. Its goal is to develop SEO by adopting the methods like keyword content technique, Correct CSS & HTML coding, social media linking, quality content linking useful directories & website linking techniques etc. which will not penalize the site. It is continues but slower process as compared to Black Hat SEO.
Black Hat SEO:
It follows un-ethical way to get web traffic. Its goal is only to get web traffic in spite of benefit to site users or search engine by adopting un-ethical methods like keyword stuffing, deceptive content techniques like using doorway pages & cloaking, linking irrelevant pages, spamming blogs, forums etc. which can penalize the site but it's very difficult also to find out Black Hat SEO. In short time period one can get higher position for pages but not safe because after long time it can be detected after that site gets penalized.
Gray Hat SEO:
This SEO technique adopts new & risky methods as compared to White Hat SEO like increasing keyword density but below the limit of Black Hat SEO, publishing copied content on different sites, using paid linking etc. which will not cause harm the site like banning by search engine. After years these techniques considered as Black Hat SEO.

There are three types of concepts in SEO
1. Black Hat SEO
2. White Hat SEO
3. Grey Hat SEO
Normally SEO Techniques are classified by the search engines where the search engines recommend some sites and some sites are not approved by them.
1. Black Hat SEO
When an aggressive techniques to make easy money are applied by the web developer with no intention of human benefit it is called as Black Hat SEO. Some techniques which are used are Hidden text, Link farms,
Keyword stuffing, blog spam, scraping, Paid links, Doorpages etc.
When Balck Hat techniques are used it achives faster top rankings but it is more risky as the site may be blocked by the search engines.
2. White Hat SEO
White hat techniques of SEO are formulated in accordance with the rules and regulations of search engines. They are ethical and these techniques are used by the developer who wants to gain long term profits and rather interested in quality of the site.
3. Grey Hat SEO
These types of techniques are in between the Black and White Hat techniques. They use both types of technique and develop their sites.
