Surya namaskar is a series of yoga poses which help to burns calories. The Defense Institute of Physiology and Allied Science published in the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology that one round of surya namskar burns about 13.91 calories for a person weighing 138 pounds.

Surya Namaskar is an efficient exercise indeed which involve most of the body movements. It helps in burning the fats and calories in our body and improves the functioning of our digestive system. It also helps to get rid off toxins and in the smooth flow of blood.

One surya namaskar can burn upto 13.91 kcal. So keep doing and in days, you can burn your calories. It is suggested to do 50 surya namskars in a day as it is only equal to one hour at gym. In no way one hour at gym can burn these many calories from your body, therefore practice surya namskar.

Suryanamaskar also called Sun salutation is a perfect Yoga workout. The 12 powerful Yoga asanas provide a good cardiovascular exercise. It also helps in keeping the mind calm and healthy. And its much better than the spiritual trainings.

It has to be learnt under the guidance of a guru as it involves sequenctial breathing and can go wrong if learnt without supervision. It not only increases our body flexibility but also boosts our metabolism.

Instead of winding up with just one round of Surya Namaskar comprising of 24 asanas (12 asanas with right leg and 12 asanas with the left leg), if we manage to do some 12 rounds per day comprising of 24 sets and 288 asanas, it will keep us more physically fit and efficient.

One round of Surya namaskar can burn around 13 calories and hence with 12 rounds, one can burn approximately 156 calories in a day. This is equivalent to working out one hour in gym with severe exercises.
