First of all it is good to see indigenous manufacturers like Micromax getting good recognition and are now able to compete with premium manufacturing companies like Samsung, HTC and Sony.
Coming to your question, it is quite tricky. You are looking for the best as well as the cheapest in the Canvas series. The following is a brief decription on the cheapest and the best Canvas devices available in the market:
1) Starting with the cheapest device in this lineup, is the Micromax Canvas Viva A72. The specifications are as follows:
Processor: 1GHz Mediatek single-core
Display: 5-inch LCD display(480x800)
Camera: 3MP rear (720p HD recording supported)
RAM: 256 MB
OS: Android Gingerbread (2.3.7)
The phone looks stunning and has an awesome build quality. It has other features like bluetooth, Wifi, tethering, etc. The phone costs around Rs.6000 and a 5" screen in this price is impossible to find. But one drawback of A72 is that it comes with less RAM and an old Android OS. The less RAM will slow down the multi-tasking capability and restrict you from playing HD games. The backdated OS will prevent you for downloading the latest apps that work with the newest OS. All in all, it is a great device if you use it only for daily usage and want a bigger display.
2) Now comes the best device in the Canvas series. It is undoubtedly the Micromax Canvas HD A116. It is the flagship phone and has challenged and even won to its competitors like Samsung Galaxy Grand, HTC One V, Sony Xperia Miro, Sony Xperia Tipo and Karbonn S1 Titanium in performance and style.
The specifications are as follows:
Processor: 1.2 GHz quad-core
Display: 5-ich 720p HD display
Camera: 8MP rear(1080p recording) and 2MP in front
OS: Android Jelly Bean and upgradable
One look at the device and you will be surprised that it bears a price tag of only Rs.14500. It is a must buy for the excellent features you get for such a less price. This is till now the best phone in the market under the quad-core segment. The 1GB RAM effortlessly helps you in multi-tasking, playing high-end games, etc. The display is simply stunning and pictures do come alive with the HD display. It runs on the Android Jelly Bean which makes the UI more smooth and easy to use.
3) Now combining both the price and performance factor, the device which has won many accolades is the Micromax Canvas 2 A110.
The specifications are as follows:
Processor: 1 GHz dual-core
Display: 5" IPS display
RAM: 512MB RAM
Camera: 8MP camera rear and 0.3MP front
OS: Android ICS, now upgradable to Jelly Bean
It is an excellent buy at the price of Rs.10000. Again, you get the best specifictaitons, like a 1 GHz dual-core processor with 512MB RAM, a 5" IPS display, a 8MP camera at the back and a front camera too for videocalling. It initially came with the Android ICS operating system but now it has got an update for Jelly Bean too.
You can buy any of the above as all are excellent devices but I would also like to entertain you with the fact that, there are new Canvas phones in the pipeline. The rumored Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is now listed online at Saholic with a coming soon status and recently another Canvas device got leaked called the Micromax A111. So it would be better if you can wait for these devices to arrive. For further knowledge on specifications and features of the upcoming Canvas devices follow the link given.
