State Governments and Central Government are providing numerous facilities to the physically challenged persons. Income Tax rules provide for rebate u/s 80DD and u/s 80U. Railways, Public Transport, Delhi Development Authority, State Housing Boards, Hospitals, Municipal corporations, Election Commission, Professional Colleges might be providing benefits to such disabled persons or their dependents with sound mind. I wanted to help the needy but could not find all the information at one place. Can you tell as to what are the facilities available to Physically Handicapped persons in India?

Any kind of discrimination against physically challenged people, other than those directly connected to their disability, is prohibited in India. The following Acts cover almost all aspects related to the physically challenged-
1) The Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992.
2) The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
3) The National Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999 and
4) The Disability Discrimination Act, 2005.
In addition to these the Government issues ordinances and circulars from time to time depending on the requirement to ensure that the disabled are not denied their due.
