Pearson English Test or PTE is the tests to assess your skills in the English language to study abroad or for immigration to abroad. It is a computer based test.
Though the basic purpose of both IELTS and PTE is same, there are some differences between these two.

1. Both IELTS and PTE assess your skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking.
IELTS is a face to face exam. In IELTS you speak directly to people who evaluate you, but in PTE you speak with the microphone and the computer records your voice.
2. While IELTS take nearly one month to give your result, PTE takes only five working days.
3. There is an advantage in PTE is that you can give your exam on any day of the year.
4. IELTS are based more on British or Australian English while PTE is in American English.
5. In writing section you need to write 2 essays in IELTS, whereas in PTE there is only one essay to be written.

Many countries like US, Canada, UK and Australia accepts PTE to get admission in their universities, however it is better to conform directly from the university you plan to take admission.
