We had the compulsion to send our child to a day care quite early; i.e since he was one and half year old. But the earliest you can send is only after the child is weaned away from mother's milk and is comfortable taking other normal food babies are given. Ensure that the child is normal healthy for its stage.
The first criteria is to satisfy yourself that your child has best care next to your care, in the given circumstances. For that you should visit the day care centre and have a personal evaluation of things, personnel and the other children there. From this you can have some idea. Have some interaction with them. Make sure that a medical care or doctor is easily available in the area. Food and timings are the other things to be enquired and hygiene ensured. Let the day care centre be as proximity to your work place so that you are away only for the minimum optimum time. Before sending it there, you may take the child with you for a couple of days to acclimatise it to the day care centre and other children there.

There is no such hard and fast age criteria for day care units for babies. It all depends upon individual requirement.
In ideal case, mothers should not leave her kids in day care before her kid is one and a half year old.
By this age, kids start having food other than mother's milk and mother may stop feeding by this time. Kids also become expressive to convey their needs by this age.
Other things which need your concern are-
1. Please check the day care unit your are going select for your baby. There are many such units where the management is not proper.
2. Cross check the units, their workers in terms of hygiene.
3. Prefer units where CC TV camera are installed to minimize the risk factor of mishandling of kids.

There is no fixed criterion relating to age to put a baby in the day-care centre. But the doctors advise to send the baby to such centres only after the baby starts taking semi-liquid food (i.e., only after the baby stops taking mother's milk).

You should leave the child at least after six months because up to six months breast feeding is very essential for the health of baby. Doctors advice to breast feed a baby for first six months and after that start giving some semi solid food.

The minimum age for the child care center is 6 months. At this age the body parts becomes little bit stronger. But earlier to this age, traveling daily from house to child care center will make uneasy for the child. It is Ok if the child care center is nearer to your house but this may not possible with everyone. So, in my view, taking care of child at your home with anyone family members like grandma, chachi, is good for your baby.
In an unavoidable circumstances, if you admit your baby to the child care center than frequent visit is a must for at-least for one month in the initial period and assess the situation how they are working to maintain the hygienic condition of your child.
