There are several reasons for banana being preferred to be given to babies as their first solid food. The main thing is the mushy texture of the fruit which is easily mashable and doesn't need a lot of chewing and grinding by babies to swallow and digest the food. It also helps in bowel regularity and doesn't upset the stomach of children. Moreover, banana is such a fruit that easily gets converted into energy, that is why you might have even seen sportsmen eating bananas during their short breaks in between games for instant energy boost. They are rich in potassium, fiber and other vitamins which makes them a great fruit to be included in everyday diet.

Banana helps babies gain weight. Also it is good for digestion. It improves immunity. Most of the time babies easily get sick and feeding them fruits improves their immunity. This is one reason solid food often starts with fruit. Some parents also give them apple if not banana. It is full of energy and definitely helps kids stay energized for longer. Again some of the times kids are not supposed to eat fruits directly if they have some condition. So for them it is recommended to wait for few weeks before they get solid food.

Banana contains iron and sugar which help in proper growth of the babies. Moreover, banana can be easily mashed and can be eaten by the babies with no teeth. These are the primary reasons for using banana as babies' first food after they start taking solid food.
