Practically, food is also a foreign substance. It isn't considered hazardous by our immune system because our food is indirectly food of the cells of our immune system too. Some people are allergic to some food (example some people are allergic to strawberries), this is possible when there is either excess presence of that nutrient in his body or he has got heredity of that allergy by his parents.
Our immune system sends message to our brain whenever we eat something, so if we eat something we are allergic to, our brain figures it out (most of the times) and sends us message back in form of sneezing, weeping etc.
Hope my answer helped you.
