IIT or Indian Institute of Technology is the best group of government engineering college in India. Every engineer once had a dream of getting admitted in IIT, but very few are successful in achieving it. IIT is the best place for studying engineering in India. Students actually learn advanced technologies with proper guidance.
For getting admitted in IIT, a student needs to crack JEE(Mains) first and then qualify the JEE(Advanced). Only 1.5lakh students qualify JEE(Main) from around 10lakh students appearing in exam. These 1.5 lakh students sit for JEE(Advanced). This is a really tough exam (personally experienced) which needs proper preparation with full dedication in class 11 and 12. Most of the students have to drop an year or two to qualify the exam.
Coming to the advantage of IIT over other engineering college. Iits are better in each and every respect. IITians get jobs all over the world with the highest paid jobs in India. Only a handful of students don't secure good jobs from iit, but they are even better than the passouts of most other engineering colleges.
Best of luck to your sister. Ask her to study properly, because very few students are able to achieve their dream to get in IIT
