It sounds like some graphic card or display setting issue go to your pc's display settings and set the highest display resolution as the yogesh said according to your monitor, if that was not solving your problem you need to replace your graphic card or monitor.

This seems to be an issue of graphic driver corruption. Most of the time when the graphic driver is corrupted you get such issues. You may want to send the monitor to be connected to other computers. Also while you are using other computer, make sure you are using the existing computer in safe mode.

In safe mode you can get low resolution and verify the output of the monitor. Also you can see that high resolution output often has some frequency issues. So make sure to get the output properly checked.

*First of all this is not any graphic card problem as stated above by others. Graphic card is used solely for gaming only and does not have any other purpose like video playing. Also graphic card does not come along with your PC, it has to be purchased separately for gaming purpose.
From your description it seems like you are not having a graphic card so you can get relieved by knowing that this is not the real problem.

The problem can be in the video card instead which is responsible for video playbacks. But conclude this only if you have tried to remove or tamper the video card by opening the CPU. If you have not done this then we can finally conclude that this is a player problem. This can be because of player going out of date or wrong settings in display option of player. I advice you to reinstall the player or run an update in order to fix this problem.

Hope your problem gets solved.

First of all, your monitor resolution is not related in any way to the videos you watch in your computer i.e. you can also watch a 4K video (2160p) in your 1366x768 monitor. You are saying that you used to play 1080p videos previously but you cannot play them now. So, the problem may be with the video (not properly downloaded, copied etc,.) or with the video player (uncommon) or with the graphic card (quite common). Just check your graphic card and replace it if you need to.

Hope this answer helps.
