There is no scientific basis of interpretation of dreams. The Freudian theory of dreams says that dreams reveal insight into hidden desires and emotions. However Sigmund Freud believed that all types of dreams irrespective of its content are directly or indirectly connected to the release of the sexual tension.

Dreams are dreams and there is nothing to interpret. Dreams are merely a resulting factor of what we think, what we do for the whole day.
Whatever resides in our subconscious mind, we used to see dreams related to that.
The dream of your friend is may be because they are spending time together.
If we consider the age of both person, there is not matching for getting married.
But anyways, getting married is a personal matter and one should not take any decision on the basis of sleeping dreams.

Dreams are reflections of unquenched reality. When a person is deeply attached emotionally with a person or thing, the desires deepens in the subconscious and the will to possess supersedes one's intelligence. Probably, it is the deep longing of your friend for the girl and wanting to have her as life partner in reality has entered his subconscious. This intense desire has been always there in his consciousness perhaps. Dreams figure out a possible temporary relief to the practical problems. That dream which you mentioned may be is a temporary solution to his mind to give some relief.

Our mind can be divided in two hemispheres. The one which we often use to resolve our issues and is responsible for our memory. It is known as cerebrum or the conscious part of the mind.
The other unconcious part of the mind is responsible for dreams. It happens sometimes what we think and have a strong desire for it to happen comes in our dream.
Many a times when we hear something but due to some stress or work load we couldn't react to that and forget it after sometime. That particular thing is captured by our unconscious mind and we recall it while sleeping and hence the same occurs as a dream to us.
Your friend may have faced any of the two situations. Either he is having a strong desire for that girl or he has heard something which related the both may be a gossip or something like that which struck deep inside his mind because of which he dreamt that.
Now its upto you in which way you both are taking the dream.

Dreams are basically projection of our subconscious mind. It is going to show us our insecurity and fear. And more we feed on those fears, love and insecurity, it is going to amplify and show it back to us.
Your dream is just like that. It is showing something you once wished for or currently wishing for. It doesn't mean that everything in your dream has any fixed meaning. You have to find how it comes into the mind at first place. This way you can understand how it is working.
That being said, I'd say you can interpret this dream as something you wanted to see in real life. But that is not happening. Beyond this I don't think there is anything specific to this dream.

Dreams are the reflections of our unfulfilled desires and for which we devote considerable time in consistent thinking. Prior to sleep, we are occupied with diverse thinkings and the thoughts remaining in our subconscious mind does take the form of dream.
In the current situation, your friend does have considerable fascination for the girl and such constant thinking is deeply rooted in his mind - frame and at the same time there is a reflection of his no fulfilment of his objective. Sometimes, suppression of desires may appear in the dream. In case, your friend can resolve the problem in a practical way, there would not be reappearance of such dream.

If you need to interpret the dreams as in the effects or meanings of it in connection with your future, I am sorry to state that there is nothing of that sort. They are superstitions and need to stay just that.
Dreams are just the reactions of our subconscious mind to what has been going on in our life, or in our mind. Suppose that you have been planning to buy a house, you will keep getting dreams about it all along until your wish is fulfilled. There are instances where you have been wanting something dearly and could not get it as you could not afford it or otherwise - you are bound to dream about those yearnings. That's because the wishes and memories are etched in your subconscious mind which goes active when you are in deep sleep.
Yes, there are certain cases where a person gets nightmares of the sort. It could have some psychological issues associated with it. In such cases, you may need to consult a psychologist to interpret the dream so that the fear or insecurity that has been etched in deep inside a person's psyche can be treated.
In your particular case, the dream could mean the dilemma being faced by the person. He is in love ( or the infatuation as the case may be) with the girl, yet his mind is not ready to accept it. This dilemma is expressed by the contradicting images that he has been seeing in his dreams.

Dreams to a great extend does not have anything to do with ones future. They are the desires that one has within his mind. The subconscious mind works when you are sleeping or relaxing and makes you think about anything that you give importance to.
It is often said that if you want to dream about any particular event, then think a lot about that event just before sleep. Hence, dreams are simple as that.
But like a coin, dreams also have other side. It is also surrounded by some mysteries. It is possible that you have high chances of experiencing few parts of the dream you had (Not the complete events). On the other hand, it is also possible that those sequential events you dreamed would never happen in your real life.
Besides these mysteries, dreams are just considered to be a connected unethical story created by our subconscious.
