We often read in news reports about ozone deletions and its possible adverse consequences on the human life. What is ozone and how ozone depletion is likely to cause adverse effect on the environment? What type of action can be taken to control ozone depletion?

Looking for more information about Ozone and its depletion? Here are details on this topic.

Ozone is a protective layer in atmosphere. The layer is made of O3 gases. When the sun rays enter earth's atmosphere, it brings along plenty of harmful radiations which can cause cancer, mutation and result in other deadly diseases. But these ozone layer acts as shield and does not allow UV rays to enter in. But we human are so civilized that our factories, vehicles exhaust carbon monoxide in plenitude. These air pollutants reaches ozone layer and creates hole in it. When ozone layer combines with carbon monoxide, it dissolves and the layer gets depleted. Once the depletion happens, all the harmful radiations will enter earth surface and create devastating effect on mankind. The polar caps will begin to melt, the temperature begins to rise like we experience today, plants and animals die of drought and the entire life on earth is endangered.

Some of the actions that we can take are:

1. Go walking or cycling for short distance travels instead of bike/car
2. Discourage usage of plastic and non renewable resource
3. Avoid products that are not environment friendly
4. Ban factories that release excessive monoxides and sulfur dioxides
5. Ban deforestation and plant more trees
6. Support farmers and agricultural businesses
7. Give up smoking and bursting of crackers.

It is a very thoughtful question and I can go on endlessly but honestly how many of us are willing to protect the only living planet on our solar system? Our mother earth has given us so many things. Are we ever appreciative is a question I would like to ask our readers.

Ozone Layer is a layer in earth's atmosphere that contains ozone which is made of 3 oxygen atoms. It is found 15-35Km above the earth surface. It is a protective layer over earth that protects it from the harmful rays of the sun. It has the capacity to absorb 97-99% of the harmful radiation of the sun, otherwise it would had have a devastating effect on the life on earth.
But over the last few decades, the ozone layer is continously depleting due to certain man-made reasons such as excessive release of chlorine and bromine from compounds such as Chloroflurocarbons(CFCs). The CFCs is generally emitted from Air Conditioners, refrigerators, aerosol spray cans, packing materials, cleaning agents etc.
Ozone Layer depletion may cause some serious health issues such as Skin Cancer, Eye Damage, damage to immune system, aging of skins.
In order to control the depletion, we have to plant a lot of trees that will consume the carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Also we have to control the CFCs emissions.
Buying recycled products, using public transport, saving energy can do a lot to protect the ozone layer.

To simplify understanding, think of layer as a way to sustain ecosystem. If this layer gets destroyed, you may find that the life on earth will be under serious crisis.

In order to avoid this layer from damaging there are certain things that needs to be avoided. For example you have to avoid using too much of air conditioners, refrigeration. Also you have to use less fueled vehicles. You can also make sure you walk more and use organic products more.

That apart, controlling the population would be much better way of handling the ozone layer. Because increasing the population on regular basis would only results in issues.

Ozon (O3) is a kind of shield (Gas Shield) which covers over Earth and prevents the harmful radiation come to the earth. The region of ozon layer in environment called stratosphere.

Now - why ozon is necessary? what adverse effect occurs due to ozon layer depletion?
Sun rays coming on to the earth contains many ultra violate radiation. Excessive ultraviolet rays harms the living being. It causes skin cancer and cataracts.

How to reduce ozon layer depletion?
Some natural calamities contribute little bit in ozon depletion like Volcano Eruption, stratospheric winds, etc. we can not put control on such activities.
Apart from this some human activities also play a significant role in ozon layer depletion.
1. Chlorine and Bromine base element compound causes ozon depletion. These compound mainly used in Refrigerant, cleaning agent, etc. PREVENTION is : Government try to banned such refrigerant
Other causes are:
2. Many factories release gases from chimney without cleaning it. Make them aware with harmful effect of such act and encourage them to incorporate devices and technology to reduce pollution.
3. Reduce the deforestation,
4. boost agricultural business,
5. Encourage tree plantation
6. Reduce use of vehicle
7. Encourage use of Eco friendly product

Ozone is a form of oxygen - an inorganic molecule that has been represented by the chemical symbol O3. It is quite unstable and breaks into the normal oxygen as soon as it enters the atmosphere. The Ozone layer is spread across the earth's atmosphere in a thin concentration. This layer of Ozone across the atmosphere acts as a deterrent for the ultraviolet light from the sun from entering the earth's atmosphere. Thus is is beneficial for the plants and animals.

Here are a few ways to prevent Ozone Depletion -

1. Control the vehicles
Reduce the amount of vehicle drawing. The emissions from them creates smog and the this smog causes deterioration of Ozone concentration.

2. Use eco friendly cleaners
Some of the cleaning agents have chemical composition that is detrimental to the ozone layer. Use non toxic cleaning products.

3. Limit on pesticides
Pesticides again are much toxic in nature. Instead of using pesticides, make use of manual or mechanical means to remove weeds.

4. Refrigerants
Some refrigerants have been known to have ozone depletion properties. One such compound is Freon. Of late, the government agencies have been alert and have banned the the products.

The above answers are just the basic theory of ozone, let me tell you the scientific theory of it.

First of all ozone layer is nothing but a layer of trimolecular oxygen atoms which reflect radiations from the sun.
Now there is a countinous breakdown and formation of this layer in the atmosphere. When the breakdown pace increases it causes ozone depletion. Ozone molecule is formed by combination of oxygen molecule and oxygen atom. Now this molecule breaks by photon particles into oxygen molecule and atom again. Now this single oxygen atom reacts with other element in atmosphere thus forming a different molecule. Thus now the only oxygen molecule left further breaks down to form two oxygen atoms which react with the left over oxygen molecules to form ozone again.
Now the real theory starts, when in this process pollutants like CFCs, Nitrogen or Sulphur oxides react with oxygen atom then the renewable process gets hindered thus leading to depletion.
Ozone depletion can cause harmful rays of the sun to escape thus leading to various maladies.
