The upper age limit for the post of Assistant Professor appears to be 35 years of age as on the last date of application. Sometimes the upper age limit is relaxed up to 37 years in case of candidates having outstanding record in academic and research in the relevant field. In the cases of SC/ST applicants there is age relaxation of 05 years. Systematic and clear information is not easily available on the subject matter. Sometimes age relaxation is reported for women candidates also. Age relaxation in case of physically challenged candidates and OBC candidates may be different. It is best to rely on the specific advertisement published by the recruiter organisation. For more authentic information an RTI application may be sent to UGC/AICTE.

You can work as a associate professor in any engineering college once you complete B.Tech degree in any stream. If you have 5 years of experience in your hands then you can apply for assistant Professor. For this, in private colleges no upper age limit. If you want to work in all over India then you should have good score in NET exam. To apply for NET competitive exam, you should not more than 28 years old (OC category). For OBC and women candidates 5 years relaxation will be provided. If you are belongs to SC/ST category then 7 years relaxation will be provided. Master's degree is necessary for assistant professor.
Here I am attaching two files about faculty recruitment rules & regulations. One is National wise rules and the other is Maharastra state Govt. rules (If you have qualified SET Examination).

Based on my 20+ years work experience in engineering colleges here is my answer:
AICTE does not specify cutoff age criteria for assistant professor's post but has laid down pre requisite qualifications which need to be met to be eligible for this post. There is no age criteria even for SC/ST/OBC or physically challenged applicants.
This is unlike the minimum age criteria laid down by MCI for posts in the medical profession.
So once you complete your PhD you can very well apply for the associate professor's post. After five years of experience, you will be eligible to apply for a professor's post.
