How to enable https to my blog?

Date: 18 Apr 2016   Posted By: Purna Prasad Sharma     Group: Computers    Category: Blog and websites

I know http:// is not secure where https:// is secure.

I have selected yes to https:// enable option into my blog's setting in the blogger and I have not used custom domain. Now my question is why after selecting HTTPS enable option yes, even my blog is showing http://(not secure connection).

I did all possible way to appear as https in its url like changing in templete all http text into https, not used of non-google gadgets ,remove all cache and cookies from my browser etc but even after i failed.

Can someone guide to know how to enable https to a blog? Here are few suggestions from our ISC wizkids.

First of all here are the steps to follow to enable https in your blog. They are:
  • To enable https to your blog, at first you should have to sign in to your account
  • Select the option on the page to update
  • On the left pane (menu) settings options will be there
  • In that settings click on basic
  • Then go to HTTP settings option
  • In this option, you have to find HTTPS availability
  • And now to enable https to your blog select 'yes'

If your domain is free of cost only you can get SSL certificate for free. You are saying it is not a custom domain. What might be the problem then? Again do the same process. I think it have not selected when you click it. However, use any other browser like apple safari, chrome, fireflox etc. and restart the system. Just check it. It may be possible for you to get https in your blog. Hope it will works for you.

You can enable the HTTPS if you have your own domain and hosting. You cant enable it on blogger.com and wordpress.com. The reason being you don't own those domains. So the HTTPS can't be applied from your end.

Once you have your own domain and hosting then you can get Cpanel. You can find the Let's encrypt setup inside the cpanel. This setup allows you to get the free SSL certification on your domain and hosting.

If you have purchased the domain from godaddy and other domain registrars, then also you can get the let's encrypt. Also if you want you can purchase the SSL for 25$ to 45$ price. Most of the people register their SSL from domain registrar or hosting service. Make sure you allow the hosting to force HTTPS whenever possible. Most of the slow connection resolve to HTTP but fast connection should be forced to HTTPS if possible.

Yes there is support for Blogger. But the HTTPS SSL certificates are owned by Google inc. Those SSL certificates are not owned by users. So this way we are limited with the options we can do on their platform. For example making blogger blog as shopping site would be not good option as SSL is owned by google we can't make use of all the security features of SSL.

You can get SSL service for free if your host has option for the "Lets encrypt" in the Cpanel. For example hawkhost has this option of allowing you to use Free SSL on your domain and hosting using lets encrypt. Check with your host if you have that option.

If you are on blogger.com or wordpress.com then you don't need to get SSL as google and wordpress takes care of that part respectively. You don't need SSL forced if you are not selling something or taking member data.
