Problem with deleting files from pen drive

Date: 30 Apr 2016   Posted By: Nagaraju     Group: Computers    Category: Hardware

My pendrive was formatted with many steps. (Tried "attrib -S -H /S /D *"also. But none of these steps are useful to delete some files)
How to completely delete all files from the pen drive? It is attached to the DVD USB slot, it not recognizing it. It is showing a Read error. How to delete these files completely?
Awaiting response.

I think you don't need files which are in the pen drive. So, why don't you use format option as it deletes all the files and already occupied space in the pen drive for other hidden files.

I suggest you to go through the below path URL if you want to keep your files which might be helpful to you in future

When USB shows the read error and doesn't get listed in the device properties page. That means the device has some issues and it needs to be repaired. If your device is under warranty then get it replaced. That way you don't have to worry about the existing device.

You have to use the UNIX or Linux device and use the format options on those operating system. Most of those operating systems can wipe out the drive without keeping a single file.

If you resolve the device detection issue then you can use the UNIX or Linux to clean the disk using the UNIX tools for disk formatting.

I'd suggest taking the device to the service center if it is under warranty. This way you can get it fixed or get an replacement.

One or more files on your pen drive might be corrupted. I would advice you to try formatting the drive. Sadly enough, you will lose the files stored on the drive.
If it cannot be formatted, it could mean the drive has certain physical problems. If your drive is still under warranty, you may visit the local service centre for a replacement, or repair.

Hello,
First check whether your getting the same problem in other system by connecting the same pen-drive. If Yes then there is a problem in your pen-drive, if no then the usb connector in your pc has some problem.
But there is a simple way for formatting a pen-drive using [Disk Management]
1) Start---> run--> there you type "diskmgmt.msc" press enter or click ok.
2)It will open disk management utility---Right-click on the partition for your USB drive.
3) Select format from the menu--> Then select FAT32 as the file system. please don't select the perform a quick format. ---> then press ok.
4)By using this method it will delete all the files from the pendrive and you can use it as a new pendrive.
Hope this method may help you. I had tried it for my sd card also.

If it is no problem for you to format your pen drive i.e. delete all its files permanently, just use the 'format' command. Otherwise, the fault must be found and corrected. The fault may be in:
USB Pin : Check the pen drive with other USB pins of your computer to know whether its a fault in the USB Pin or not. Such fault is quite uncommon.
Computer : Check the pen drive with USB pins of any other computer to know whether it is a computer fault or not. Then, go to 'Control Panel' and to 'Devices and Printers' and then troubleshoot the pen drive and try deleting again.
USB Device : If your pen drive does not work in any computer, its a fault in the pen drive. It cannot be used again.

Hope this answer helps.

Please go through the following article at ISC

It helped me once in retrieving data from a write protected pen drive. You may go through the following query which was almost similar to your query.
