From the above responses all the queries related to paper pattern will vanish from your mind.
Directly coming to the point on how should aspiring candidate start preparation.
You preparation methodology should be like this. If you have already prepared for the exam previously then you can clear preliminary exams very easily. However, it is only one hour exam time duration. You should start your preparation from now itself to get good marks.

For Quant – Use short cut methods if necessary. Since it is a clerical exam, most of the questions you can answer through short cut method pattern or answer to question pattern. This is very easy and time saving technique for sometimes. However, you can find up to 5 questions like this. Suppose, if you want to find square of 195 then you should simply calculate as:
(19X20) for the left numbers
and 5 X 5 are the right numbers.
So the answer will become 38,025
Divide 195 as two parts that is 19 and 5.
Add 1 to the 19. It will become 20.
And now multiply these two – i.e, 19 X 20
And for the remaining part you should multiply with same number i.e; 5 with 5. So the answer will become 25.
Add these two. This is the way to find out and trick to use when the number ends with 5.
However, you can do this for any number which ends with 5.
Let's have another example: 225
22 X 23 = 506
5 X 5 = 25
So, the answer will be 50,625.
Like this you can find many short-cut methods.

Reasoning We may not find short-cut tips for reasoning until and unless practice needs more important. Fast reading capacity, understanding the concept, giving right answer to the question are only the tricks to follow. However, there are some topics like blood relations, directions, seating arrangement, venn diagrams are the topics to score high marks with the less timings. For some questions in reasoning, you might do calculate to get the exact answer.

Data Interpretation and Data sufficiency : If we observe the previous question papers, then we can find minimum 10-15 questions from this part. Easy calculation and time saving methods to find out the answer is to well prepare the topics from ratio, proportion and averages. However, you can find answers from seeing the charts itself. Sometimes these are called as gift questions. Finding out these and opt the right answer is better way to increase your score.
General awareness: For this, you need to prepare thoroughly material from institution and keep update the contents which you have already learned. Follow any two news papers. I suggest you to choose the Hindu and any regional news paper.

General English: Seems it is very easy but hard too. Daily 5-10 new words you have to learn which automatically increases your vocabulary. Like this you need to practice regularly. You can collect number of words which helps you to answering the synonyms and antonyms questions.
For reading comprehension, you set time limit and increase your reading capacity. Here two things are considered. One is to read the total passage which contains 2-3 sub-passages and the other understands the concept. You should give equal priority to both. While reading try to find out the key points and try to bring out the title of the passage.

For, remaining all questions, you should thoroughly prepare the concepts from grammar from your tenth and +2 standards. Exercise more and more concepts. Regular practice is mandatory.

In addition to the above all, you need to choose the right institution and taking help from your seniors and faculty guidance is must to clear preliminary and mains exams. Finally, interview too.

Coming to the books part, you should follow at least 2-3 from different publications. Arihent is the famous publication which have all the books rightly covered and preferred too.

I think all techniques from all sections are cleared.

So, it is the time to say my best wishes to your bright future!
