What is campus placement?
Campus placement is when companies take new employees direct from colleges by conducting test and/or interview in the campus itself.
What basis the companies shortlist colleges for campus placement?
There are can be two options.
1. The college being an established and reputed on, the companies themselves offer this facility in that college.
2. Most colleges have a placement cell with a designated official for liaisoning with companies. If they can convince the companies about the credentials, then companies agree and visit the campus for campus placement.
In many colleges, no system of campus placement exists. Why?
They may be lacking in quality, reputation, approval and authorisation. The standard of infrastructure, teachers and passing out students may not be matching industrial level standards.
Are the initial salary packages in case of all campus placements same/similar?
No, there can be variations. They may not be exactly equal to all students or all companies. But it will be mostly in a similar range for companies in the same sector . Even there the exceptional r candidates may fetch some higher posts or higher salary.

Every college has a department called "Training and Placement cell" from where student can get all the information about the companies he/she is elligible for and which companies are going to visit within next few weeks.
With the trend of having many private engineering institutions, these institution often calls company to visit their colleges durring this period college pays all the expenses of journey of the HR team and hotels where they stay and conduct all the procedure for company placement and asks company to take in more and more number of students wheras in case of well reputed Government colleges and also famous private colleges companies visit themselves to place student without getting any paycheck.
And every company have their own different critirea and rounds for the selection some of these rounds are written and aptitude round,group discussion and personal interview
Some companies also define percentage criteria and the students with no backlogs can sit in the rounds conducted by them.

Campus placements are nothing but getting job offers from companies while studying in colleges. Generally the college management would tie up some reputed firms and a dedicated placement cell would take care of the campus recruitments.
Students of Professional courses like Engineering, Pharmacy and Business Administration would prefer some good colleges of reputation so that their placements are assured. The reputation of the college depends on the number of students got recruited through campus interviews during the previous academic year.
Software companies like TCS, Wipro and Infosis , banking agencies like HSBC, HDFC and ICICI and Pharmaceutical companies like Reddy's Laboratories, Glaxo, Glenmark and Torrent prefer to take young blood direct from the colleges and Universities so that they can train them effectively. There would be written tests and interview followed by Group Discussion to select the candidates.
However, PSUs and some other Government agencies select candidates through their recruitment channels based on their merit card in GMAT, GRE and GATE etc.
