NAAC is an autonomous or self financing body. It is funded by UGC. It was found in the year 1994 and its headquarters is in Bangalore.
Its functions include the assessment and accreditation of higher education institutions in India. Accreditation means granting credit or a rank to institutions which show and maintain the required standards. Institutions which want to be accredited are expected to maintain a particular standard. Institutions which meet the eligibility criteria can apply for NAAC Assessment & Accreditation (A&A). There are many benefits for getting accredited, as people look for quality of education and they know where to look. Not only quality, the institutions can correct, improve and develop in many aspects through this review process.
