NAAC is an autonomous or self financing body. It is funded by UGC. It was found in the year 1994 and its headquarters is in Bangalore.

Its functions include the assessment and accreditation of higher education institutions in India. Accreditation means granting credit or a rank to institutions which show and maintain the required standards. Institutions which want to be accredited are expected to maintain a particular standard. Institutions which meet the eligibility criteria can apply for NAAC Assessment & Accreditation (A&A). There are many benefits for getting accredited, as people look for quality of education and they know where to look. Not only quality, the institutions can correct, improve and develop in many aspects through this review process.
NAAC uses grading system.

NAAC is a body that give accreditation to the the colleges and universities. It is their job to give rating and decide if the colleges and universities are really performing as per the standard. It has credit standard from A++ to D. Where A++ is based on the GPA value for the institute. And D revokes any accreditation given to the colleges. It has seven criteria that decide the rating. In order for any organization to perform better it has to be in accordance with their standard.

This body governs the quality of education. They decide if the colleges and university are performing as per the quality criteria set by them. They can make the college or university non accredited.
