Even if the student is weak in mathematics, it can be improved by hard work. If necessary the mathematics books of class 5th onward should be arranged and practice of solving mathematical problems should be started beginning from 5th standard books onward. In this manner the fundamentals and basic concepts are likely to become clear.
Regarding future career prospects , it is going to depend on the efforts put in by the student during the next three years while studying in the diploma course. Many students study daily up to 12 or more hours. All other social and fun activities etc.should be postponed for a later date i.e. after getting a proper job.
The student can get Government jobs as well as can go abroad also provided he is able to take a firm decision to focus on studies only. After completing diploma course, lateral entry in the second year of an engineering course is also possible.

The scope for candidates with Diploma In Civil Engineering is very good. The present Government's policy is very much focused on developing infrastructure in the country. The candidates with Diploma In Civil Engineering have ample opportunities of employment. After Diploma Course, the student can do Degree in Civil Engineering course by lateral entry into the second year of Degree course after qualifying in the appropriate entrance test.
For entry into Government Polytechnics, the student should have appeared for the common entrance test for admission into polytechnics. Even for private polytechnic admission, a pass in the entrance test will be necessary.
