It is really very difficult to say which milk is more healthier. However, it can be stated without any iota of doubt that the fat content of buffalo milk is much more than the fat content in cow milk. In northern part of India, people generally take buffalo milk much more than cow milk. However, in eastern part and southern part of the country, people prefer cow milk.

As the digestive capacity of children below five years is comparatively less, cow milk is more preferable for them.

Buffalow - milk would serve more nutrients because of having higher fat content and even the mineral contents like Calcium, Phosphorous, Magnesium and Potassium are appreciably higher than that of Cow - milk. The absorption of fat content of Buffalow's milk would not create any health - issue for the children since their digestion power remain under excellent condition.
On the other hand, the aged people should prefer to Cow milk because of presence of less fat which would prove to an excellent health drink for them.

For a normally active adult, buffalo milk is better than cow's milk to gain weight faster.

Buffalo milk has higher quantum of almost all comparable components than cow's milk.

However to be practical, you may use what is more easily available and commonly used in your area; use that unless there is some specific issue .

Generally in villages cows are bred at home in one or two numbers and the milk available after their own consumption is sold locally. There it will be better to have the cow's milk as it will be less adulterated as they are know locally to the people and the sellers do not expect much commercial profit.

Similarly buffaloes are bred for commercial sales of milk. So even though the buffalo milk is more fatty, you can expect at least water addition on commercial outlets. They may still be having more fat than the cow's milk available.

If good cow's milk is easily available, then that is preferable for children. Cow's milk comes closer in its composition to mother's milk , but with slightly higher quantum in certain components. Buffalo milk contains far higher quantum in many components which are not so essential at that young age. So cow's milk can suffice. However if only buffalo milk is easily available and at low cost and good quality, then the same can be given to children with diluting with clean, hygienic drinking water.
