Date: 19 Jun 2016   Posted By: Mukesh Prasad     Group: Health    Category: Nutrition

I am suffering from ear infection. It started one month back when I got a cold and did not took any medicine thinking that it will be cured on its own. But slowly my ears got infected. First they were blocked and later started paining and it increased day by day.
For two days I did home remedies but finally I visited one ENT specialist. He has given me some medicine, and it took 3-4 days to cure my ear. But now again I am suffering from the same problem. Although this time I don't have cold or cough but still my left ear is paining in the same manner. Experts: Can you suggest some good advice to cure it permanently?

Dear Mr. Mukesh,

We are sorry to hear that presently you are in pain. Well, as you say you have an ear infection caused by cold.
In case of ear infection weather caused by a bacterium/virus or any other sickness probably cold as in your case, is very painful. A person with acute pain lasting for two days, or if discharge of fluid or pus is seen should consult a doctor immediately.
It is very good that you have already seen a doctor. I can suggest you some remedies, which can be done at home and hopefully you will get relief from the pain.
1. place a cotton dipped in garlic oil in your ear`s aperture, it may reduce your pain. this can be done thrice a day. do not leave it overnight. keep the cotton only for half an hour or so.
2. put 3-4 drops of lukewarm olive oil which acts as a lubricant and fights infection in the ear.
3. similarly, you can extract juice from fresh ginger and put some drops in your ears. this will reduce your pain and at the same time reduce inflammation also.
4. peppermint juice also can be used in the same way.
However, all the above home remedies are tried and tested by most homes, yet my suggestion is to consult a doctor again for full cure of your problem. And once it is cured, please take care and avoid all that can put you in same situation. avoid polluted and dusty areas. prevent getting cold again. In case of slight symptoms of throat infection or cold, take medication or go by home remedies to improve and control the situation.
I hope that works for you.
wish you a speedy recovery
regards
shweta

Ear infection due to cold can be treated in the following manners:-

(a) Pure mustard oil with garlic should be heated. After heating, the oil should be cooled to some extent and this oil should be put in the ear carefully drop by drop. Then take clean cotton (stress on cleanliness) and put it in the ear. This should be done before going to bed.

(b) The ear should not be pricked, especially with sharp object, under any circumstances.

(c) If no positive result can be seen in 2-3 days, consulting an ENT specialist is necessary.

If there is no fluid discharge from the ear, you can assume there is no rupture in ear diaphragm. If there is fluid discharge no natural remedies can work, you have to continuously consult a ENT specialist and take the prescribed doses of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Ear is not just an organ for hearing, it is responsible for the balance of your entire body. Even a sudden change in temperature inside ear can cause issues to your other functionalities in the body. So please don't go for natural remedies in case of ear problems. If you did not get proper treatment from an ENT specialist at right time, you could end up in worse condition. May even require surgery.

Natural remedies in ear sometimes may reduce your discomfort but in long run it will definitely make your condition worse. And also if have infection in diaphragm natural remedies can cause you rupture in the drum.

An ear infection may sometimes cause a temporary or reversible hearing loss. This generally occurs because the infection blocks sound from passing through the ear canal or middle ear to the inner ear. When sound is blocked like this, it is known as conductive hearing loss. Because of this reason you may hear sounds as muffled or indistinct.
Following are the types of ear infection that may cause temporary or reversible hearing loss:
1] Infection of the ear canal
2] Middle ear infection
3] Fluid in the space behind the eardrum
Ear infection can be cured by Garlic .Because Garlic has strong antibacterial properties, that fight against bacterial infection and thus provide relief from the ear pain. It also acts as anti-inflammatory agent that aids in clearing ear wax that block the drainage of the fluids. It can also be used as a preventive measure for an earache, if suffering from a cough or cold.
There are two ways to use garlic for ear pain.
1] Garlic and cotton ball: With a pestle, crush one clove of garlic. Wrap it in cotton so as to make a ball. Insert this into the painful ear, ensuring that it doesn't penetrate deep. Keep it for 15 minutes.
2] Garlic oil: An age-old remedy to treat ear ache. You need to heat 5–6 cloves with a little mustard or coconut oil until the oil turns red. Now, cool it slightly and put 1- 2 drops of this oil to get rid of ear pain.
