About change in duration of B.Ed course

Date: 20 Jun 2016   Posted By: shweta     Group: Education    Category: Professional Courses

I would like to know why the government has changed the B.Ed course from 1 year duration to 2 years. I think B.Ed trainees are suffering due to this decision because most of them who have graduated have even completed post graduation in their respective subjects. Now they will have to undergo 2 years or more for professional training which is making too late for them to join a school for job.Can you provide reason for the change of duration>

The National Council for Teacher Education is a Government of India body set up under National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 which regulates teacher training courses in India, besides its other entrusted function. The duration of B.Ed. course has been fixed two years. The candidates who have completed their graduation degrees like B.A. and B.Sc. etc. are eligible for admission in the B.Ed. course. A B.Ed. degree has been made mandatory for teaching at the secondary (classes 9 and 10) and higher secondary (10+2 or classes 11 and 12) in India. Once the norms have been fixed, the same are to be followed. There is no gain in discussing about the reasons behind the same.
