Aadhaar Card can be issued only after capturing biometric data and verification of ID and address of the applicant. The first step in to enroll for Aadhaar. Aadhaar enrollment is free. The individual has to visit any authorized Aadhaar enrollment center anywhere in India with his/her identity and address proof. Eighteen types of proof of identity and thirty three types of proof of address documents are accepted. Photo ID cards like PAN card and Govt ID cards are common examples of identity proof. Water electricity and telephone bills from the last three months are also accepted as the address proof.
At the enrollment center, personal details are required to be filled in the form. Images of photo, finger-prints and iris scan are also captured as a part of the enrollment. The applicant can review the details and make necessary corrections also during enrollment itself. An acknowledgment slip is issued together with a temporary enrollment number and other details captured during enrollment to the applicant. The data is verified subsequently and Aadhar card is sent by post at the verified address. The total process may take up to 2 to 3 months or even more in complicated case. There is no way to fill online form only and get the Aadhaar card.
