Date: 09 Jul 2016    Group: Opinion About    Category: Miscellaneous

I have heard that seedless varieties of many fruits like watermelons, tomatoes, grapes, oranges, lemons and limes etc. are available in the markets. What are seedless fruits and how such fruits are grown in absence of seeds to be sowed for growing next crop?

Generally seedless varieties are grown by cutting and planting their vines , stems etc.
There are other methods like tissue culture whereby new plants are grown and given for replanting.

The main reason for seedless fruits is failure in pollination in flowers of any articular fruit.
The usual process needs the pollination of flower which gives birth to fruits but if the pollination does not occur, the seeds will not develop and the fruit will be without seeds. In such cases cross pollination may occur between different plants which supports the fruit development but that is without seeds. It is just a outline and it has a detailed explanation to understand.

For propagation of these plants or fruits, grafting is the common method used by most of the people. They use veins or stems to grow new plant.
