In montessori schools the generally the age limits for admission in Pre-KG, LKG and UKG classes are 2 years 10 months to 3 years, 3 years 10 months to 4 years and 4 years 10 months to 5 years respectively. However the age Limit may vary from school to school. Also some Schools may have LKG, UKG and Preparatory (ISCE Schools) and may not have Pre-KG.
It is advisable to always carry the child's birth certificate as age proof, while visiting any school for an inquiry. One should try to select the school near to the home as far as possible. Ideally the school should be within 3-4 kilometers radius.
Also the school should not be changed frequently.

The correct age for start schooling is 3 years for nursery. Now days, many school management even do not accept children below 3 years of age for admission.
So, the current trend is like play-school at the age of 2 years and 6 months and nursery at the age of 3 years.
You have not mentioned any reason for delay in school of your kid but ideally he would be in LKG at this age.
You must start his education at home. You can use buy picture books, rhyme books, Video -Audio CDs, etc for him. These are the teaching methods most of the schools are following. This way, you son will be familiar with all these things and will be able to catch his class mates next year in UKG.
You should also start working on his writing ability like draw standing line and sleeping line wit the help of dots, matching dots, etc.

Your son is presently 4 years 4 months old. As per the current trend, he should be admitted in Upper KG of any Montessori school. He can be admitted in Lower KG also. But as per the current guidelines, the child won't be allowed to take admission in 1st standard at this age.

As a matter of fact, three years is the right age of a child to be admitted in a nursery school and hence in the case of your son, it is somewhat late in respect of his admission in the nursery.
In the mean time, you may buy some picture, rhyme and colouring books for arousing interest within the mind - frame of the child. Prepare your child to spell out his name correctly and moreover he should be able to tell his father's name as well on being asked the same. Teach him the correct sequence of numbers and alphabets. Ensure that the child does not lose confidence in a new environment such as in the school - premises.
With a little training, you can manage your child to be admitted in a nursery school. Care has to be taken to admit the child in a school which is adjacent to your residence and the bus - arrangement offered by the school may be availed of keeping in view of the safety of the child.
