What is the National Institute of Open Schooling and where it is located
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)is an autonomous institution under Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt of India. It is established for the purpose of enabling people to get education or continue their education if discontinued, by distance and open learning. The NIOS is giving this facility upto the senior secondary level i.e that is upto plus two level.
It is HeadQuartered at Noida, Uttar Pradesh and has regional offices at different places to cater to the various states and union territories. It has more than six thousand study centres spread all over the country.
What are the basic aims and objectives of NIOS and what kind of education it provides
The basic aim and objective is to provide school leveleducation for those who did not get formal school education or have discontinued same at some level for various reasons. NIOS helps opportunity of education by open schooling and distance learning with self learning materials. NIOS provides programmes at three basic levels equivalent to classIII,VI and VIII. Then it provides academic courses equivalent to class X and XII. It also provides Vocational education courses also.
They are all recognised as equivalent to the examinations of other Boards of same level.
