How to become a chartered engineer and what qualifications are required for the same? How a chartered engineer is different from a normal engineer and what are the duties and responsibilities of a chartered engineer? Also which body/organization certifies/recognizes an engineer as a charted engineer?

How to become a chartered engineer and what qualifications are required for the same?
A Chartered Engineer , in India, is basically an Engineering qualified person and additionally certified by the Institution of Engineers(India) as Chartered Engineer.
To obtain the Chartered Engineer certificate the concerned one has to be first a corporate Life Member of Institution of Engineers() complying the eligibility prescribed. The such corporate life member has to apply to IE(India) on prescribed application paying prescribed fees.
The relevant para in the web site of IE(India) says " Eligibility Criteria for Chartered Engineer:-Any Life Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India) can designate himself as a Chartered Engineer (C Eng).A special certificate specifying as Chartered Engineer ( C Eng ) can be obtained on payment of Rs. 7500/- only (for applicants from India ...... This is applicable only to the Members who have paid Composite Subscriptions / Life Compounding fees in full."
Generally the minimum qualification is BE/B.Tech or equivalent recognised by the Institution of Engineers(India) along with specified number of years experience in relevant field, shall be engaged in the profession of engineering in a position of responsibility.
(AMIE is membership is also a membership and is given after passing examinations A&B conducted by IEI and the qualification is equivalent to BE/B.Tech. For the eligibility refer to the membership section n IEI)

Chartered Engineer is not ay way different from a professional appeal expertise for the clients and public. As the certification is given following certain eligible criterion, the label holders have proved some minimum experience and expertise. That can fetch them more business and clientele. Chartered Engineers are entrusted with projects to develop Engineering solutions to problems, to develop new technologies and improved design and efficiency in the field of engineering applications. They are also entrusted with evaluation and assessment of existing engineering and industrial projects and modification feasibility etc.

Which body/organization certifies/recognizes an engineer as a charted engineer?
Institutions like banks, govt departments and other corporate ask for the certification as eligibility for empanelling valuers etc. for their schemes and projects.
