The eligibility criteria for recruitment vary from company to company. There are many factors like percentage of marks in engineering degree ( may be at 10, 10+2 levels also), the stream of engineering, age and nationality etc. The criteria are relaxed in case of the reserved category candidates as per extant rules. The number of companies recruiting through GATE score is gradually increasing and in the year 2015, more than 27 companies had adopted this system of recruitment.
Some of the main PSU companies adopting system of recruitment through GATE score are - IRCON, DMRC, BSPCL, DRDO, RITES, ONGC, NFL, IPR, PSPCL, PSTCL, MDL, BPCL, IOCL, HPCL, GAIL, NLC, CEL, NBCC, NHPC, BHEL, NTPC, WBSEDCL, Oil India, Power Grid, NHAI, KRIBHCO, MRVC Ltd, MECL, NALCO, AAI, BNPM, NTC, EdCIL India and Coal India Ltd etc. In addition, the Cabinet Secretariat, Govt. of India has also used GATE score for recruitment.
Generally, the minimum set criteria regarding marks at engineering degree level is 60% to 65%. However, as mentioned above, the criteria varies from company to company. Therefore only after studying the detailed advertisement issued by the specific company, the picture is likely to be clear.
Although generally speaking there may not be any relaxation in the advertised percentage of marks but still, it is advisable for the author to work hard and score maximum possible score in GATE. The effort made by the author is not likely to go in vain.
