UGC - NET examination also known as National Eligibility Test
is meant for those who are interested either in Junior Research Fellow or want to take up the assignment of Lecturership in a constituent college. On behalf of UGC, the examination is conducted by CBSE Board and finally on the basis of the result published by the board, eligible aspirants are offered the jobs.
The minimum eligibility criteria for General, OBC and SC/ ST has been fixed as 60 percent, 55 percent and 50 percent respectively.
The examination is conducted once in a year normally in the month of June or as decided by the commission.
In respect of eligibility - criteria for assistant professor and JRF, the same standard is maintained.
One thing to be noted in this context is that the aspirants acquiring Ph.D degree are exempted from NET test and such candidates are considered for Lecturership on the basis of their Ph.D qualification.

UGC-NET examination is now being conducted by the CBSE. Earlier, it was conducted by the UGC itself. The full form of NET is National Eligibility Test. This test is held twice a year, in the month of June and in the month of December.
NET is held to determine eligibility for college and university level lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Only Indian nationals are eligible to appear in this test. The minimum eligibility criterion for General, OBC and SC/ ST has been fixed as 60%, 55% and 50% respectively. There is no age-bar for NET in respect of lectureship. However, the age limit for NET in respect of JRF is 28 years with 5 years relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PH/Female candidates.
PhD Degree holders are not required to appear in the UGC-NET.

UGC NET Exam gets conducted to select the best candidates for eligibility of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
What is the eligibility criteria of UGC NET Exam?
1. For General Category Candidates – 55% aggregate in Master's Degree or Equivalent Degree
2. For ST/SC/OBC/ PWD Candidates – 50% aggregate in Master's Degree
3. The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master's level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
4. A final year student of Master's Degree or passed out student whose result is still awaited is also eligible for UGC NET Exam.
UGC NET Exam is conducted twice in a year.UGC NET July exam has already been conducted now UGC NET December exam will be conducted.
