The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) of the Government of Tamil Nadu has not fixed any clear cut age criteria for pre-nursery, nursery, Lower KG and class one admission. Therefore the schools have set their own age limits.

According to one circular issued by the DPI , the minimum and maximum age for admission in Lower KG class was 3 years and 4 years 6 months and for class one admission, the lower age limit was 5 years and the upper age limit was 6 years 6 months. However, after some time, the upper limit for both Lower KG and class one admission was raised by three months.

Generally, for appearing in class X board examinations, the age limit is clearly defined by the concerned Government departments and the schools accordingly fix the age limit.

It is best to trust the reputed schools in which admission is sought. Many parents face such situations every year fearing loss of one year as the date of births varies in the case of different children.

Let us encourage each other in sharing knowledge.
