• # Find which part of city get least amount of rainfall.

During a rain storm different parts A,B, and C of a city received different amounts of rainfall. if A received 18/5 cm, B received 29/8 cm and C received 25/7cm of rainfall, which part of the city received the least amount of rainfall. This is one of the word problem in mathematics. Can you provide the answer for the above specified word problem?

• Given that part A get 18/5 cm of rainfall, B get 29/8 cm of rainfall and C get 25/7 cm of rainfall.
LCD of denominator 5,8 and 7 is 280. Then the equivalent amount of rainfall with LAM 280 as denominator are
18/5=(18/5) x (56/56)=1008/280
29/8=(29/8) x (35/35)= 1015/280
25/7=(25/7) x (40/40)= 1000/280
That means, 1008, 1015 and 1000 for part A,B and C respectively.
Therefore, part C of the city received the least amount of rainfall, which is 1000/280 cm.

• since there is no confusion in the question
part A gets 18/5=3.60 cm rainfall
part B gets 29/8=3.625 cm rainfall
part C gets 25/7=3.571 cm rainfall

so part C gets the least rainfall.

• Hi,
Part A of city receives rainfall = 18/5,
Part B of city receives rainfall = 29/8 and
Part C of city receives rainfall = 25/7
for equalising the denominator of each fraction we multiply it as,

18/5 x56/56, 29/8 x35/35, 25/7x 40/40

= 1008/280, 1015/280, 1000/280
Now it is clear that part C of the city gets least rainfall.

• Part A gets 18/5=3.60 cm rainfall
Part B gets 29/8=3.625 cm rainfall
Part C gets 25/7=3.571 cm rainfall

so part C gets the least rainfall.
