Dry skin- looks like snake skin, with rashes and peel off

Having dry skin? Searching for effective remedies? Find advice from experts on this page.

I am having ultra dry skin. During winter the skin becomes like snake skin and peels off with itching. This problem was shown to many skin specialists. They say it is hereditary and cannot be cured. One lady suggested me to apply glycerin. It is effective but I need to apply it regularly. If I leave one day, again the next day I face same problem. Kindly suggest if any one has better solution.

If the author wants to go the desi way to have control over the skin during dryness which usually happens in winter season , then applying the coconut oil on the body would give the better effect. During winter even a small scratch on the skin would leave the mark noticeable to others and that would be embarrassing situation to any girl. So nothing beats the advantage of coconut oil applied on the body. And if the author wants to have oil less treatment for the issue, then she may try the Aloevera Milk cream packs from various companies available in the Ayurvedic stores for effective use.

The dryness and 'flake' like appearance will be more at lower ends of hands and legs. When taking body bath or washing hands, expose those parts to water more time. Use a soft scrubber to scrub off the dry skins without causing abrasions. Then apply moisturising cream.

It is suggested that you use pure raw coconut oil and apply it on your skin. You may apply same to your face also before taking bath or washing. Use it regularly.

Alternatively, you can make the oil at home. That will be more sweet smelling and effective.
Grate raw coconut . Crush them with little water. Take the crushed milk . You may repeat crush and press to extract all possible thick milk. Slowly heat the milk on a low flame in a thick bottomed container. The water will slowly evaporate and oil will remain. Filter and keep it for use. This oil is edible also.(The residue solid can be use for chutneys etc.).

Whenever possible avoid use of chemical soaps and cleansers. You may use some Ayurvedic soaps with Sandal and honey ingredient. Use soaps with more TFM. You can use moong(green gram) flour in the place of soap. But use it on oiled skin. If not otherwise prohibited, use moderate quantities of pure ghee in your day time food.
When possible, take an extra body bath in the evenings also, taking care about the weather and your tolerability.

Avoid over exposing skin to winter and hot summer.

I believe Dry and Flaky skin is very common complaint for most of the people during the winter time, as dry air sucks the life out of the silky smooth skin. As author mentioned, the reason also hereditary along with nutritional deficiencies and aging. There are lots or western lotions and moisturizers in market, which are quite effective in a way, also big in price.

As we all know Natural Remedies are cheap and also safe in keeping hydrating dry skin back to a healthy state.

Dry - skins are noticeable mostly in winter because of dry weather. However we can reverse this situation by taking the following precautions -
    1) Massage of mustard - oil - The mustard oil can lock the moisture and its regular massage in winter can provide a youthful skin. A regular massage for fifteen minutes on different parts of the body with the mustard oil before the shower would take care of the dry skin and skin will glow with its regular usage.
    2) Milk- Milk contains Lactic - acid which can take care of dead skin and at the same time increases the ability to retain the moisture. A cloth is to be soaked in warm - milk and the same has to be put on the different parts of the body allowing the milk to be absorbed on the pores of the skin for sometime and the finally the same has to be washed off with Luke - warm water. Regular application of milk will make the skin soft eliminating the dead - skins.
    3) Honey - Honey has the ability to retain the moisture on the body in addition to many essential vitamins and minerals which can improve upon the skin's health. Prior to taking bath the honey should be rubbed all over the body and after 10 minutes bath should be taken.
    4) Application of Aloevera gel on the skin has the favourable effect and can enhance the moisturising property. This gel is to be applied all over the body and after twenty minutes, one can take bath. Regular application of Aloevera on the skin would eliminate dead skin and skin will have the natural look.
We must take nutrient diet and by taking Apples, Carrots, dry fruits like Almonds and walnuts would take care of your dry - skin.
A tea spoon of Deshi - Cow ghee should be consumed in the winter season and its regular taking in the winter season would have benificial effect on the skin.

Petroleum jelly seems to have a really good effect on the body. You may find that it can be used to keep the skin oily during the winter. And this way you can avoid the skin getting into rashes. And the skin getting pilled off can be prevented as well.

Another option is Nivea cold cream which is also known to work on the skin. And it can get rid of the skin issues some of the time. I have found that skin issues if caused due to allergy may also benefit from this cream. or burned and rashes skin issues can help from application of this cream.

Castor oil is another option that can be used. This has capacity to keep the cold out of your skin. I am sure this may also work on the existing rashes and peeled off skin.

Best thing to do is apply Coconut/Mustard/Sesame oil

I strongly suggest you to use Sesame Oil for dry skin as it works wonders on them. Coconut and Mustard Oil too works but not as much as sesame.Apply and massage for 10 - 15 Min and when you take bath take a white cloth and rub the skin properly. This will help you to exfoliate dead skins accumulated.Don't use any harsh soaps.

Apply good moisturizer immediately after bath while the skin is still wet.

Most important thing is that you need to keep yourself hydrated from within. Try to consume 2 - 3 Liters of Water

Do exercise daily to have glowing skin.

Dry skin is a very common skin problem among people. It may because of heredity or malnutrition or from any other skin problems. You had stated that it happens in winter. Usually in winter there is less humidity in the atmosphere and thats why it steals moisture from your skin making it dry from outside.
To get relief from it you have to take care of your skin regularly. You had stated that you have flaky skin which can be removed by daily scrubbing off. Use some good quality body scrub in the time before your bath. it will remove the dead skin skin cells from your skin making it satin soft. Do not use harsh soaps during bath. Use good quality moisturizing soaps or glycerin soaps or shower gels which will not make your skin dry. Apply body lotion in your whole body immediately after your bath so that it locks the moisture and keeps your skin moisturized for long hours.
Take care of your food habit. Take seasonal fruits, proteins and fats. Drink at least 4-5 liters of water daily so that your skin remains hydrated from inside.
For home made remedy use the following things:
Honey: It is a natural moisturizer. Use face packs made with honey to make your skin moisturized for long time.
Aloe Vera gel: Collect fresh aloe Vera leaves and then scoop out the inner portions. Add few drops of lemon juice with it and massage your skin with it. use it regularly for better results.
Coconut Oil: Regularly massage your body with coconut oil for best results. It removes dryness by nourishing it and locks natural moisture inside your skin so that it does not dry.
Olive Oil: take a little bit of honey and olive oil. boil them for two minutes. now massage your skin with this mixture regularly. It not only removes the dryness from your skin, but makes it glowing if used regularly.
