Most of the aeronautics companies hire Mechanical and Production engineers as they lack the number of the aeronautical engineers passing out. This is one reason there are many colleges opening out for degrees in aeronautics and aircraft engineering. I suggest you to find out colleges and courses where you can get the degree. Some of the colleges are not legit such as IIAEIT pune. So avoid college like that. You should instead get into colleges which are government recognized. That way your degree won't go in vain. You have options from IIT, BITS and few other known popular colleges where you can learn about it.

I don't think there is any reason to undermine the stream of Aeronautical Engineering. There are a lot of job opportunities for Aeronautical engineers, especially in the United States of America. California is a very promising country for aeronautical engineers.
As for India, immediately after you complete Aeronautical Engineering, you can apply as as a trainee or intern in a company. Slowly, you will be experienced enough to apply for the aeronautical engineer positions. Later on you can become aircraft engineers. After being in the company for around 10-15 years, you can shift your focus to become system engineers or design engineers. If you can learn a certificate course in industrial design, meanwhile while you are at a job, then shifting as design engineers won't be a problem. You can also apply for research in universities having aeronautical engineering courses and you will get high pay packages for studying this engineering stream and doing innovations in it.
For this course related information, you can refer to this link.

At present, there is a shortfall of Aeronatical - engineers and this can be compensated only by taking up this course by the aspirants. As far as the job - prospects of Aeronautical -engineers are concerned, there is huge demand for such engineers in Air - lines, HAL, ISRO, Defence - laboratories etc and they are better paid for their engagements.
The best place for sustaining education in Aeronautical - engineering would be to qualify the competitive test of IIT so as to receive a degree in Aeronautical field and you would be recruited in a campus placement with decent salaries and perks.
The other institutes in the similar line are Hindustan Aeronatics University Chennai, Delhi School of Aeronautics, Aeoronautical Institute, Secunderabad etc.
There is provision of undertaking of section A and Section B course of Aeronautical - engineering through AMIE section and such degrees are at par with any engineering received from a recognised university. You may plan to have this degree with your self - study considering the time - constraint.

Aeronautical Engineering is one of the most potential resource generating area in the arena of employment in India. We have a good number of industries and research institutes which would provide good placements for the aeronautical Engineers. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) with headquarters at Bangalore with various branches at Koraput (Orissa), Ishapore (West Bengal), Korwa and Lucknow (UP) and Nasik (Mharastra) is one of the major PSUs that takes care of production, overhauling and manufacturing of Aero engines and SU-30 Aircrafts. Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) at Bangalore is one of the biggest Reasearch and Development Establishment of DRDO that caters for Aeronautical Engineers. Apart from the above, we have good International Airports at Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai and more airports are to be established where the requirement of Aeronautical Engineers is there. The GMR group of Industries have also tie up with foreign countries like Malaysia where they have played a key role in developing their Airport are now leading in this field and they offer good employment to such engineers with high perks.
