How to make a model of Earth with a ball?

Do you want to know how to make a model of the Globe for your school going kid? Just get the clue from our ISC experts here.

    Hi
I need to assist my daughter who is in Std 3, in making a model of Earth with a plastic ball. I have searched in the Google but am not satisfied with what I searched. Hence posting this question here.

Can you please tell me how to make a model of Earth (not a globe) with a plastic ball? I'm trying various methods but the outcome is not satisfactory. I need urgent help as she has to submit the model next week. Please give a detailed step-by-step procedure.

    Thanks in advance.

The conversion from flat map to round and round to flat is not straight forward and some companies making globes of good quality have their own copyright techniques for that and are not available in public domain.

In children book shop there are some world atlas available where in addition to the flat map there is one map of earth given in triangular lobes connected with each other. These triangular pieces if property shaped through xeroxing or scanning can be glued on to a spherical surface to create a globe. There may be some distortions which can be smoothened out by distributing it evenly.

These things are done commercially by some software applications which may be asking too much at this juncture but there are some informations available at the following links which you may find useful.

    Hi,
I saw your question. Here is a small try from me to help you out.
First take some pieces of old news papers and then soak them for a day in a bowl of water. on the very next day add some glue with it and mash it well to prepare pulp. Apply or brush the plastic ball with fevicol.
Then coat the plastic ball with this mashed paper pulp to prepare the earth's surface. Do not make it so plain but a little rough. Allow it to dry by keeping it aside. Do not dry it under sun although you are in hurry, rather set it in room temperature. then color it properly as you see in earth model i.e. blue, green etc. Here your model is ready. I think it will be ok for std 3.

    Hello,
Making the earth model is pretty simple for a student who is in 3rd std.
All you have to do is select a plain ball with no texture.
    1. A plastic ball will go well. If there are any indentations on it, just clean them with sand/ emery paper.
    2. Take some white paper and cut some small random pieces out of it.
    3. Take some fevicol or glue and add some amount of water to it.
    4. The water should be added in such a way that the paper should be able to soak it completely.
    5. Now dip the paper pieces into this mixture and apply/ stick them onto the surface of the ball.
    6. After all the surface area is covered completely with the paper, let it dry for some time.
    7. After the paper is dry, draw the world map onto the globe by looking into a printed world map.
    8. Make sure that you outline India and the continents perfectly.
    9. Use blue color to paint the oceans and leave the continents white. And you will have the globe ready.
