Definitely, you will have a very good chance in teaching. You can join as an assistant professor in any university. Already you have put up 5 years experience in teaching, you may get the post of Associate professor post also. You can become a professor in maximum another ten years and the salaries they offer in the universities also good. You can guide people for their PhD in universities. My opinion is the chances in police administration for a PhD in police administration are very less.

Since you are a Ph.D holder in Police - administration and have sufficient experience in teaching experience, you may go in for teaching line in a constituent college but you have to ensure that such provision exists in the teaching cirriculam. What I mean to say that the subject of Police - administration is covered in the graduate/ post graduate level.
Your qualification seems to be of practical significance if you switch over to teaching - experience.
In order to get the job of the Police - administration, you have to appear either for the Indian - Police Service or you have to appear for the state - level Police Service. Though the preparation for the Police Service is somewhat difficult and you need to have thorough preparation in order to clear both written and oral criteria include for the test and finally you will be evaluated for your physical fitness. State - level, preparation is not that much strenuous but you need to maintain a consistent - level in your preparation.
Your alacrity, smartness and your physical fitness are the chief attributes in your final selection in respect of Police - job.

For appointments in officers posts in police department one has to appear and qualify in state level service commission or Indian Police Service for which age is also a crucial criterion. That you have to see whether it is feasible in your case.

Anyway as you have already got a teaching experience so teaching line is one of the best options for a person having done PhD. Here you can progress to higher levels and can guide the postgraduate students for their PhD. You can even consider applying to other universities or institutes if you get a chance for higher post elsewhere.

There are many colleges/ universities where this subject is taught. Some of them are -

    1. Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai
    2. Annamalai University, Cuddalore
    3. Manonmaniam Sundaranar
    University, Tirunelveli
    4. University of Kerala,
    Thiruvananthapuram
    5. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar

    Knowledge is power.

In police department generally persons are inducted based on certain entrance examinations through competitions. I do not think there is any direct induction for PhD people there.
You can try for lecturer or assistant lecturer in he institutions where such courses are taught. In due course of time you ca get promoted and guide students for their M Phil or PhD.
Another thing is if age is not a constraint you can appear in police services examinations for officers posts in police department.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

The appointment of Police is done at various levels. These are:-

    (a) Indian Police Service: The selection is through Indian Civil Services Examination. Minimum qualification is Graduation. No specialised qualification is required.
    (b) State Police Service: The selection is through State Civil Services Examination. Minimum qualification is Graduation. No special qualification is required.
    (c) Inspector/Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police/State Police Force: Selection is through SSC/State Public Service Examination. Minimum qualification is Graduation. No special qualification is required.
    (d) Constable in Delhi Police/State Police Force: Selection by Delhi Police/State Police. Minimum qualification is Xth. No special qualification is required.

The eligibility of appointment in para-military forces is almost identical.

So, there is no requirement of specialised qualification. After joining Police Service at various level, the Officers/ASIs/Constables are trained as per requirements.

The degree of PhD in Police Administration will be helpful in teaching the specific subject at university level. You may be occasionally called for giving lectures as expert in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. You can check the website of the Academy and also the website of Sardar Patel University of Police Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur, for suitable opportunities in your field.

    Caution: Explosive. Handle with care.
