You can register for your part time Ph.D. When you are working in a office you can apply through your office to the university. The university will be giving notification for registering for doctorate. At that time you can apply for part time Ph.D. First of all you have to contact the department professor under whom you want to do your Ph.D. He will tell you the procedure. In Andhra University my brother got registered for Ph.D in Engineering College as explained above. So you can contact the department in which you want to get registered for your Ph.D.

As you have not indicated your subject, it is little bit difficult to give comprehensive information. If you are a student of humanities or commerce stream, it would be relatively easy to take admission in part-time PhD. However, if you are a student of laboratory-based subject like Physics or Chemistry, it would be difficult to go for part-time PhD, if you are not working in educational field (teacher/lecturer in school/college).

As you are living in Andhra Pradesh, you may check Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (www.braou.ac.in), whether your subject is available for doctoral research, or not. You may also check IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in). Thereafter, you have to chose your guide and convince him/her to accept you under him/her as part-time research student. Only then you should go for registration.

    Caution: Explosive. Handle with care.

There are some streams with which you you can persue your doctorate degree via distance education mode such as commerce or humanity- stream. For such streams, there is no restriction in continuance of part- time Ph.D. However, the same thing is not applicable in case of science - streams such as Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geology etc where practical Examinatin, too, is included along with the theoretical one.
IGNOU has been established in order to cater to the needs of the aspirants interested to persue any stream of their likings. Moreover, this is a recognised university having its affiliation through UGC. You will be having enough assistance from the able guide to sustain your Reasearch - activities.
The other universities from where you can make queries for the further perusal of part programme of Ph.D are Manipal - university, SRM university, Amity - university, Jadavpur- university, Annamalai- university etc.
The universities as indicated above will offer you quality guidance in achieving your part - time doctorate- degree.
