Is there any issue in getting marry my cousin ?

Is it true that there may be a genetic impact if one gets married to a very close relative in a family circle? A doubt sometimes seriously affects a true love. Check this page to know the views of our experts who can guide you well in this regard.

I am 27 yrs old. I am in love with my cousin. Her father is the younger brother of my mother and her mother is the younger sister of my father. She is 6 yrs younger than me and we have the same blood group.

Our parents are willing us to get married. Even I am in love with her deeply. But some of my friends and relatives are saying that it will cause the genetic disorder problem for our children in future. So now I am very afraid and confused about that. Even she is afraid of that.

Kindly tell us the solution for this and we need your guidance and advise. Please help us to live the life happily.

    Eagerly awaiting your reply.

    Thanks in advance.

From a purely scientific point of view, I can firmly say that marriage among close relatives may cause a genetical defect. And in your case, it is a very close relation. So, there is definitely a probability of a genetical defect in the next generation. So, if you are determined to marry your cousin, you must take the advice of a qualified medical specialist and follow his/her considered opinion.

However, in various communities, such marriage is socially acceptable and I am not in a position to comment on this social custom.

Non-violence is the greatest Dharma; So too is all righteous violence.

One need not worry much about this issue. When our oldtimers married did they see the blood group and they all have a much better married life than the present generation? It is not required to match blood groups before marriage. It is important to know the Rh blood group of the partners. This is s because in case an Rh-negative girl marries an Rh-positive boy, there is a chance that the baby might be Rh positive. This situation can lead to Rh isoimmunisation. That means during development in the womb if the baby's blood enters the mother, it will induce the production of antibodies in the mother as the baby's Rh positive blood is foreign to the Rh negative mother's immune system. These antibodies in the mother can then cross the placenta and enter the baby's blood leading to a reaction that destroys the baby's Rh-positive red blood cells leading to anaemia, jaundice, etc. But you need not worry about this also.If the blood group is known in advance, the doctor takes due precaution during pregnancy and minimises the possibility of this reaction occurring. So don't worry. You can go ahead.

Once your parents are willing to your marriage and you are in love with her deeply, you should get married with her. In south India it is common practice to get married in close blood relation and the marriage is successful. There may or may not be some hazards of such marriage. Do not afraid go ahead.

This entirely depends upon your willingness to go ahead for the marriage but before that both of you ( you and your partner ) should have coherent attitude regarding the acceptance of such marriage. Examine the different angles prior to arriving at final solution. Some of the factors to be considered prior to marriage are mental Union, sense of responsibility, dedication and reliability. If both of you do have enough passion for each other, go ahead for the marriage.
With regard to RH factor and any disorder arising out of genetics disorder, there are ways and means to avoid such abnormalities. Both of you have to remain under the close surveillance of the medical expert teams for the timely support in the event of pregnancy of your wife. It would be safe for both of you to know the blood - group and the same must be intimated to your doctor for the preventive step to be taken up by them.
So, without having any fearness in this regard, you may tie up the knot.

As per medical science it is believed the marriages in close relation (consanguine marriage) may sometimes create genetic or other medical disorders in the offsprings. This is more of probabilistic in nature then a firm rule.

In many communities marrying in close relations is a common thing. Some people are too much concerned for the after affects of these marriages and avoid it as a safeguard.

You can take a decision based upon your own perception as the advices will be mixed and will only create confusions.

There is nothing wrong to marry your cousin. It is good that you both have same blood group. According to the hereditary law of Madel, there is a good chance of linkage if you marry in your family. Future is not in our hand. You both love each other and it is important. Is there any guarantee that there would not be a problem in your children if marry out of your family? No, no one can guarantee you that thing. So, do not affraid go ahead and marry your cousin. Love is the medicine of all diseases.
    Honesty is the best policy.

As per the tradition and custom of many communities, the marriage relationship of cousins as in your case is socially and traditionally permitted and accepted.
In your case almost all the factors are positive and favourable. You love the girl. Your families are supportive and willing and interested to have such a marriage relationship.

But the essential one point is , does the girl also love you, or at least do not have any objection for the marriage. If she also is agreeing for the marriage why to doubt and hesitate? Go ahead , marry and have a happy life ahead.

Though very theoretically consanguineous marriages have more probability of hereditary effects, if the characteristics are known and are good, there is no problem and may be for better also.
In fact when you marry a stranger, you do not probe the ancestral details. So you do not know what all health issues the parents, grandparents great grand parents all have/had. So you cannot be sure and guaranteed about any future hereditary problems.

Here in your case your both sides ancestral details are well known to each other. There will be no problems known .That is why both families are willing for the marriage.

Hence if the girl is agreeing, go ahead with confidence. Marry, and have a happy and prosperous life ahead. . One caution. Now that you are all agreeing, do not pay attention to others talking, horoscope etc. Just have faith in yourselves, your families and well wishers and God.

    Best Wishes

Getting married to a cousin may create a risk only in a small population. All couples cannot expect the same risk. The risk of genetic and congenital disorders, due to the alteration in a gene of the fetus in the embryonic stage.Only 3% of the case comes up with such disorder.
And blood group has not related to it, the sex chromosomes and pattern of base pairs in individual relates.Rhesus factor is also considered. If a mother has negative Rh factor and father with positive Rh factor, if the child born has positive Rh factor then there is no risk of first pregnancy, but while delivery the antibody will be created in oppose to the Rh-positive fetus. But in second pregnancy the child gets positive Rh then the antibody will enter the placenta and damage the baby causing mental retardation and condition is called erythroblastosis fetalisis. It can be also seenn in a normal married couple. There are many disorders but at a small rate of possibilities.
The child may get mentally retarded or physical defects. In pregnancy it may cause abortion or stillbirth.
The overview of blood and Rh can predict but to know the consequences you can go through the genetic testing procedure to avoid risk and to know the risk factors.
There are many people who married cousins but had no risk in conceiving it depends on both the individual.
