As you are studying M.A in English and you want to become an assistant professor, so you must clear the NET(National Eligibility Test).
Central board of secondary education(CBSE) conducts NET exam twice every year on behalf of University Grants Commission to select the candidates for JRF and Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges.
And the minimum educational qualification required to apply for NET exam is master degree or post graduation with minimum 55% of marks for General and OBC categories & 50% of marks for SC, ST and PWD candidates. So, you must secure minimum percentage of marks in your M.A to get qualified to apply for NET exam.
And there is age limit to apply for this NET exam. For Junior Research Fellowship, maximum age limit is 28 years and age relaxation of 5 years for remaining categories. And for this JRF, an amount of Rs.25,000/- will be provided by both CSIR and UGC.
And for Lectureship, there is no maximum age limit.
And examination fee is Rs.1000/- for General category, Rs.500/- for OBC candidates and Rs.250/- for SC, ST and PWD candidates.
