It is a private university. I have read many reviews about this university and my impressions are as follows.

The entire campus is not Wi-Fi enabled. There is poor Wi-Fi connectivity. The classrooms are good, but not maintained properly. The benches are full of dust all the time. You have to clean them by yourself if you have to sit. The library is good, but it is difficult to find any book. Labs are not up to mark. The canteen food is good.
The teachers are qualified. They don't have any knowledge at all. Students need practical knowledge. The teachers have no knowledge about current things happening in the world or new technology. The teaching method is a traditional Indian method that we follow from the school. We just have to open the notebook and keep writing.
When we talk about placements, a B.Tech student would expect big MNCs or maybe a startup, but they want to go for a technical job. I have joined many placement drives, 9 out of 10 were from BPO background, so no one could go. After studying hard for 4 years and spending so much money, we can not work for a BPO at Rs. 10,000-15,000. Placement is the main thing that needs to be improved in the university.
The campus is surrounded by industries. The campus has a good crowd.
Now, based on the above input you can take a decision.

In the context of what Rao Sir has said, kindly consider studying in one of the established deemed Universities, where the standard of education is very good.

Since there is a huge competition, it has become relatively easy for students from all over the country to enter into any of the three big and very famous deemed Universities of Tamil Nadu, for the B.Tech course. These three Universities are the VIT University, the SRM University, both of which have huge campuses in Chennai city., and the SASTRA University, which is based in a town called Thanjavur, around 300 kilometers from Chennai. VIT 's main campus is in a town called Vellore, which is superbly connected by buses that ply every five minutes from the Koyembedu, Central Bus Station, which is there in the heart of Chennai.

Please do note that these three Universities have their own entrance examinations. Though I do not know about alternatives in Punjab, given that the standard is so good here and thousands from your own State do come down to study in each of these Deemed Universities, you can try them.

There are two more Deemed Universities, where the placement record is okay, once again in Chennai. One is called Vel's University, and the second is called Sathyabaama University. Please do note that students regularly go abroad after studying in these institutions.

As per the reviews in various sites, RIMT university appears a good institution imparting quality courses to the students. It offers 124 courses in 16 streams and 45 specializations.

It has good infrastructure facilities and well-maintained hostels in its campus. As per the reviews, the students have appreciated it like anything. Its main popular course is diploma in engineering.

In some of the streams, there are good placement opportunities also. Based on these data you can also cross-check and if found correct can take a decision to take admission there.

The Regional Institute of Management and Technology is a private university. In a ranking of engineering colleges in Punjab ( based on facilities, faculty, quality of education, student placement status, affiliation etc) RIMT is ranked 29th for the year 2018.

When it comes to UG or PG courses, most of us would choose a reputed Government college, then a private deemed university based on the college rankings.

The top 6 universities for engineering in Punjab are

    Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar
Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sangrur
    Thapar University, Patiala
Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana
    Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar

I Respect Dr rao sir statement & opinion but it should have some valid basis as one can check with the placement record on their Website & Facebook page . Placement is quite good & many placement drives are organized by the university to get more jobs for the students. i would also like to state that during the placement drives students from other colleges also get bright placement opportunities here . Companies are visiting round the year to recruit students, for the circuit & management programmes, opportunities are vast & adding to it in the Last few years there has been a rapid incline in placements of mechanical students . Students per suing their programmes at RIMT university secure a package varying from 3 lakhs per annum to a high of about 9 lakhs. Organizations like Amdocs, Sears Holding, Zensar, John Dheere, NIIT Technologies, SunGard Availability services, Cybage, Cavisson, KPIT, Infogain and a lot more visit for recruiting young talent.( these companies are neither BPO nor they offer a pkg of 10k – 15k )
