    Dear Sunil,

Indian Railway has now became technologically advance nowadays and as result of that people can book their tickets online and even confirm the status, but for the same the person need to have the Internet knowledge. The best thing about this service is that one can get reservation done, sitting at home before the computer. We need not to stand in cues and travel long distance to get the railway tickets booked.

One can book his/ her tickets at IRCTC's online reservation site ( Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is a subsidiary or the marketing division of Indian Railways. IRCTC handles the programme of online ticket booking and this programme was launched by Cleartrip On 3rd August 2002. It's very user friendly but a 1.8% service charge is levied on the cost of the train fare for a particular ticket that is booked. For booking the tickets online the payment has to be made online only through a valid Debit or Credit card, so the access to the same is also required. As well at the time of Booking of a ticket online it asks you to enter details of ID proof that they would expect you to carry along with you at the time of the journey. So, must also be having an ID Proof for the same. In case there are n number of people travelling together then only one persons ID Proof will be sufficient.

When you open the site, you need to first sign in as a member and then you can book tickets by using that user Id and Password.

On a single click you can also come to know all the available trains from one destination to other and there timings of arrival and departure are also mentioned as well as there fare. At the time of online reservation, one can see two types of tickets namely I-tickets and E-tickets that are offered. E-tickets are the electronic tickets offered by the Indian Railway. Once a confirmed ticket appears on the screen, one can take a printout of the ticket. For heading towards journey, one is required to take the e-ticket along with an appropriate identity card.

I-tickets are actually Indian railway tickets that are required to be booked some days prior to the actual date of journey. These tickets can be availed after filling in the required data. I-tickets are sent to the address provided in the form. To avail this service, one has to pay a small fee including the courier charges. This service has made the system easier and people can get tickets at their doorsteps without any hassles.

Not only you can book your tickets online but also if you change your Plans you can cancel the same through this site only by going to the cancel tickets section and the money gets credited to your Card from which the payment was made or you would get the cheque of the same sent ot your address.

So, now I think you just need to visit the sit and all the other things would get cleared once you apply it by yourself.

By this time, I think you have gained fair idea regarding how to go about for booking an online rail ticket i.e. through Apart from using the Credit Card/Debit Card, if you hold an ITZ Cash Card, you can also make use of it for booking an online ticket.
One disadvantage in having an e-ticket is that, if you hold a wait list e-ticket and your ticket do not get confirmed, then the ticket will be trated as no ticket, as the cost of the ticket automatically get refunded to your account.

Create an account in irctc website.

    Log in to the site.

go to your account and plan your trip.

Search the trains and know whether tickets are available for the date and class.

Then click on book and make payment via on line banking. Your ticket will be booked. Take a print and carry with you. Your ID card also required to be carried with you.
