Hi to all, I am studying in an engineering college. Most of the student in our college got selected as a software enginner in companies like TCS, INFOSYS, SYNTEL, PERSISTENT, COGNIZANT etc.
I want to know the what kind of work the companies give to a software engineer. If know then please reply. Thanks in advance.

Hi Arun,
You would be given training in the domain they are currently working in since no college prepares you well enough start working directly. Once proper training is given you would be assigned specific tasks like programming, testing, troubleshooting etc. based on the profile you have been given. It will vary from company to company. There will be a lot of learning process involved and you will find that what you learn from colleges is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hi Arun,
I am in software industry for last 4 years, Started as an IT-Engineer (Training) for TCS after my college and no working with Wipro Tec as a senior software engg. These companies are very project oriented. There is a concept called free-pool or free-bench. They hire you and initially keep you in a free pool . ie bunch of employee with no projects assigned. In this period, they give trainings to employees so that they can be assigned projects. Your role in big companies remains very specifec. You will be asked to do some development/changes and you have to do that within a reasonable time frame. Types of work: 1. Coding 2. Requirement Analysis 3. Support Project 4. Documentation.
Thanks Varun
