To all those who do not TURN OFF their PC's , A/C's & Lights before Leaving OFFICE .....
Most of us in the IT field, used to do one thing before leaving for the day from office, Press Ctrl+Alt+ Del and leave to home happily. That means your PC is still on.. One normal PC in the sleeping mode (Hibernation) will consume 35 watts/hr. Based on this we will do a small calculation.

Small Calculation on Power consuption in IT Organisation For one week 24 * 7 = 168 Hrs Of this if we consider that we are working for 68 hours, then the PC is in sleeping mode for 100 Hrs a week. For one month 4 * 100 = 400 Hrs In a normal IT office, if we assume approximately 250 PCs are there, 250 * 400 = 1,00,000 Hrs (Sleeping Mode) So the power wasted in an office in a month is, 100000 * 35 = 3500 KWH or units. If the charge per unit is Indian Rs. 6, then totally the wastage value is approximately 21000 Indian rupees.
Here the sad thing is not the money loss to the company but the power loss to the country. (Hope no company is bothered about this procedure of keeping the system in sleeping mode)

Effort of the People to generate power : Apart from the loss to the country we need to think of the efforts people are putting for producing the power in the Mines, Thermal Stations, Hydro electric Stations, etc. If this is to continue, the cost of unit power will go up & at one stage we will not get power even if we are ready to pay any cost. So before leaving to home take some time to shut down the PC and do some favour to the country and the organisation.

Hi Everybody! This is Jogi, I am a power plant engineer. Lets have a GD on Saving Energy.
SAVING ENERGY Most of the energy we use today comes from coal, oil, and natural gas. They are fossil fuels. They take millions of years to form. We cant make more quickly. They are nonrenewable. We need to save energy whenever we can. You can help.
Reduce waste. A good way to save energy is by not wasting things. Dont use paper plates or cups all the time. You only use them oncethen throw them away. Write on both sides of your paper. Use a lunch box and thermos instead of paper bags and box drinks. Buy one big bottle of juice instead of six little ones. Buy one big bag of chipsnot ten little ones. Reducing waste saves energy. It takes energy to make things and to get rid of them. Buy things without a lot of packaging. Some candy has more plastic around it than food in it. What a waste!
Reuse things. Try to use things more than once. Wash out plastic sandwich bags and use them again. Use the comics from newspapers to wrap presents. Buy toys at yard sales and you can save energy and money, too. Paint your big sisters old bike instead of buying a new one. Fix old things whenever you can. Give your old clothes and toys to someone who needs themdont throw them away.
Recycle. You can recycle lots of thingscans, paper, glass, and plastic. It only takes a minute to recycle, and it saves energy. It takes a lot of energy to dig up metal and make a can. It only takes a little energy to make a new can from an old one. Cans can be recycled over and over again. Plastic bottles can be recycled into clothes and rugs. Paper can be recycled into boxes and bags. Dont throw away anything you can recycle.
Save electricity. You use a lot of electricity every day. Use only what you need. Dont turn on two lights if you only need one. Remember to turn off the lights when you leave a room. Turn off the TV and video games, too. On a sunny day, read by a window. Its a simple way to save energy. Keep the refrigerator door closed. Know what you want before you open the door. If youre pouring a drink, dont leave the door open. It takes a lot of energy to cool things. If the air conditioner is on, keep doors and windows closed. Dont go in and out, in and out. If you can, just use a fan and wear light clothes instead of using the air conditioner.
Save gasoline. It takes a lot of energy to operate a car. Walk or ride your bike wherever you can. If you and some of your friends are going to the same place, go together. Take the bus instead of asking for a ride to school.
Save heat. It takes a lot of energy to heat houses and water. If the heat is on, keep doors and windows closed. Wear warm clothes instead of turning up the heat. At night, use blankets to stay warm. When you take a bath, use only the water you need. And dont stand in the shower for a long time. Heating water uses energy.
You can make a difference. The things you do every day make a difference. If everyone saves just a little energy, it adds up to a lot. When you save energy, you save money, too. You have more money to spend on other things. Saving energy also helps protect the environment.

Switch off all lights and air conditioners when not in use. Maintain the room temperature @ 24 0 c instead of 21 0 c. This temperature is most optimum for your health. Reduce the consumption of paper including toilet paper. Encourage re-use of paper. Sell all waste news papers to the “raddiwala” as it finally goes to re-cycle.
Do not waste food, water and any other items. It finally reflects into energy consumption
