How to Make the Most of Your Study Time
1) Set aside a regular time and place for study. If your home tends to be noisy in the
afternoon and at night, try studying in tho morning before school.
2)Study time should be divided into short chunks. Avoid all-night cramming. Sometimes
studying with others can help you understand and retain information.
3) For an overview of a new subject, try reading a popular account first. Pictures and
illustrations can help flesh out abstract ideas and unfamiliar times.
4) Make study interesting by focusing on people behind historical dates and scientific
discoveries. Often, a historical movie or novel makes a period come alive
5) When faced with a great deal of reading, scan the material first, looking at the first
and last sentence of each paragraph.
6) lo keep Irack of a book's maiin ideas, make a brief, informal outline listiing the
author's important points as you read.
7) When taking notes, write down ideas on one side of a file card Paraphrase or summarize
the information in your own words and mark down the source. Give each card a short heading;
this will help you to organize your notes more easily.
