Tiger spotted at Askot (height 12000 ft.) of Uttarakhand!

Generally tigers are animals of plain land. The plain land of India from sea-shore (in Sundarbans) to lower Himalayan foothills (Dooars/Corbett National Park) are considered the natural habitat of Indian tigers. In a remarkable event, photographic evidences have been found of presence of tigers at Askot in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Askot is located at a height of 12000 ft. from the sea-level.
During the British period, some stories used to be hard that tigers were found at Askot and its vicinity (Jim Corbett stories), but this is the first time, evidence has been gathered to support an substantiate such stories.
This is the highest location in India where tiger's location is confirmed.

Yes it is really a breaking news and good news that we could know about new habitat of tigers at that much height. Now having come to know about it, government must preserve them otherwise the poachers would take to on killing them. In fact the government must take the services of Discovery channel staff who are capable of spotting and indexing the tigers so that a census be taken. Each tiger that has been spotted will have the radio active instrument and camera and that will send the signals to the control room and that will monitor the tigers and their living habit at such a height. I would love to watch the film made on this great findings.

The International Tiger Day is celebrated on July 29 every year. Therefore many news items appear in the media about the tigers.
Nowadays humans and the tigers are vying with each other for space. The tigers have lost estimated 93% of their natural habitat due to the expansion of cities and agriculture by humans. As the forests are shrinking and the natural prey of tiger getting scarce, tigers are forced to hunt domestic livestock which is resulting in a human-tiger conflict.
Perhaps because of such reasons only, the tigers are migrating to newer areas (literally greener pastures).
However, a subspecies of the tigers, the Siberian tigers live at higher altitudes only in the Siberian, Manchurian, Ussurian or Northeast China regions.

Let us encourage each other in sharing knowledge.
